Never end saying your video is too long, because it's very interesting. The thing with brine shrimp causing more defects is new to me, but I will surely take notice of it. My rainbowshiners started breeding already in rather cold months 20 degrees in the living room (room temperature), I guess sunlight is triggering them as well.

I ment to say too much of a good thing is bad, I recommend giving them a all around diet. I was told by other asian breeder from Asia that had the same problem if they fed too much bbs

That was a great video and your set up is impressive. I’ve been looking into these shiners for a while now and even have a tank seasoning up and plants growing out for when I get them. It’s a 55G I was thinking 8 fish from 2 different suppliers (total 16 fish) To get started and do some breeding of them. Nothing like your operation but maybe get a grow out tank of them going.

Why do the young Shiners spawn on the introduced pebbles on the trap and not the large rocks decorating their aquarium? Also, do you have a video about any tricks for White Cloud breeding? My long fins haven’t done well with that.

I know this is an older video but I need help. I purchased 15 rainbow shiners and had them in an aquarium for a couple of months until the weather in my area got a little warmer so I could move them outside to my tub ponds. They were perfect indoors but after moving them outside two days later they became very skittish and appear to to not go after food like they used too. They are in a 40 gallon tub with plants and sponge filters. Water temps range from 60-72 depending on the day right now. I’m an experienced aquarist and have been doing tubs and tanks for many, many years. This is my first time with shiners. Water parameters are perfect. Any ideas why they are spooked?

Moving them will make them act like that for a while. They should be find in a week or 2

I’ve had good luck breeding without separating the males from females. They are pretty consistent every 12-16 days spawning. Same egg collection style. And at room temp of my basement @66-70 degrees. But @whiteclouddynasty is the Master!! Great video. Very informative. Thanks.
