Breeding nano species rainbow fish such as threadfin rainbows and blue eye rainbows can be a challenge because the fry are so small. Enjoy this FishEZ tour of how I raised the fry of these very small fish.

I’m enjoying the video mate! Very informative and I’ll go to this video if I’m considering breeding threadfin or blue eye rainbows. I absolutely love pseudomogils! Outstanding work man! Keep it up FishEz! 👍

What is your food setup like for feeding the fry? I have a setup for brine shrimp ready to go, however, I feel that it may be too big for the young fry
@FishEZ
@FishEZ Жыл бұрын
You are correct. The mouths of threadfins and rainbows are much smaller and BBS (brine shrimp) will not work initially. So I use Paramecia and vinegar eels for up to 10 days with these fish. BUT, bear in mind the way they hatch out is not all at once, so I continue the very small food for the newly hatched ones even when the tank might also be getting slightly larger BBS for the older fry. Eventually there's no more new mops and the end result is that the smallest are finally eating BBS. That's when I stop with the very smallest of live foods.

I just picked up a group of 6 blue eyes fork tails and this is going to help a bunch . Do you do anything to stop the eggs from developing fungus ?

What temperature do you keep the neon red blue eyes for breeding
@FishEZ
@FishEZ 2 жыл бұрын
It seems that anywhere between 78 to 82 is OK. I haven't found a "sweet-spot" just yet.

Do threadfin rainbow fry grow fast or slow?
@FishEZ
@FishEZ 8 ай бұрын
Super slow. Most Rainbow fish are slow-growers.

I have heard that those are not really rainbows , whats yours opinion?
@FishEZ
@FishEZ 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you @fishiemon64 for your question. Depends on which fish you are referring to. The Threadfins are NOT of the Pseudomugil genus and thus they are not the same "rainbows" as are the blue-eyes. However, you will find that they are from the same parts of the world, namely, in tropical northern Australia and New Guinea. I think that's why they get lumped in together. Their breeding, however, is very similar and can be done in the home aquaria the same way. They are commonly referred to as rainbows, so that's as real as it gets.

what water parameters are needed for the threadfin rainbowfish
@FishEZ
@FishEZ Жыл бұрын
I use tap water mainly, it's TDS out of my tap of about 180. Rainbowfish should not have it tooo soft. Temps I use are about 80 to 82 (because my tank is up high, I can't control it too well) Stays in the upper range mostly. They seem to do OK with that.

@@FishEZ should I keep my tank neutral pH
@FishEZ
@FishEZ Жыл бұрын
@@justinlay9229 My tanks are not neutral but more on the alkaline side, about 7.8 ph or even a bit higher. I have not had any issues with this that I can tell. However, I'm not experienced in keeping them in 7.0 to really know. I think, however, the key is that these fish can tolerate a fairly decent range of PH so long as they are gently introduced or acclimated to the PH. I always recommend it best for keeping fish in the tap water that you have to avoid issues when doing water changes.

@@FishEZ would i have to condition my tap water first
@FishEZ
@FishEZ Жыл бұрын
@@justinlay9229 In most cases, people have chlorine in their tap water and that is harmful to the fish gills. They would have trouble breathing. So it's always recommended that you condition the water with "Prime" or something similar, in order to remove harmful chlorine. Another way is to vigorously aerate the water for 24 hours, that removes chlorine as well.

Your message translates to: "Unfortunately, I can’t breed Iriatherina verneri😢 I’ve been trying for a long time ... The fry is dying" I totally understand your issue. I too do not have a sure way to breed these fish. I have seen some fry but they do die very easily. I only have one female left at the moment and I'm trying very hard to get some fry out of them. I did have some success in past years, so I believe that using a 5 gallon tank is best with very small (low) amounts of agitation in the water. I used a trickle overflow system that I think works the best. Thank you for your comment.

@FishEZ
@FishEZ 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do know that these fish do not live a long long time, but there are a lot of fish out there that live a whole lot shorter. A couple of years is pretty good. Breeding them, makes it possible always have a nice group of them.
