We can measure that fluctuation. I was surprised when we first discovered that. The fluctuation is much higher in the summer than in the winter I suppose due to more metabolic activity on the part of the plants. Charles

I caught the vid from Aq Coop awhile back and thought your farm was interesting. I have a home aquarium hobby, but not very extensive, raising a few tropicals over the years. The 2/21 freezer and Hurricane Harvey left alot of people in the dark and cold besides the farms and homes such as you all experienced. Working at a Walmart store in Lawrence, KS during the Feb., '21 cold caused power outages here, resulting in the Walmart store to throw away all of the perishable food items on display... At least this wasn't my personal property, but it certainly makes one feel horribly sad and helpless again when the weather and the society throw us around too. Thanks for taking the time to show us your farming. Dennis Tyler,

Thank you for watching. Selection, both natural and human mediated, can radically alter a strain or species within a few generations. This fish has lots of potential for color selection. We have to adjust our operations with the seasons. Currently, we are running fans and have the greenhouses covered with shade cloth to reduce solar heat gain. In the late fall the shade cloth will be taken down to allow heat gain. Charles

Those vittata fit my tastes quite well, I have a tendency to to choose mostly fish with muted or subtle colors but very nice patterns with a single or a few of a more colorful or slightly larger fish. Those would look great with a large gourami or a paradise fish, the water pH would prevent habitation with certain fish, but most labyrinth fish can handle high pH despite their origins. The speckled coloration goes very well with the orange, I think that if the orange is selected for the males will look fantastic and add just an extra little splash of color to an aquarium. I want to get a livebearer of some kind, but i have to limit myself right now. I also want to try African cichlids, not necessarily my style but I admit those fish are spectacular.

Interesting thoughts. We've raised a lot of anabantids in our systems and probably will start raising paradise fish and Bettas again. Charles

@@goliadfarms7029 im mostly referring to wild caught specimens or lines bred in acidic water, paradise fish, bettas, and most commonly available gourami can handle high pH no problem, but when you start getting into wild type bettas and licorice gourami acidic water is often necessary to keep them alive.

I feed mosquito larvae to all my fish, along with other live foods, several times a week. I feel it keeps their interest in hunting, intact, keeps them more alert and healthier as they search out & chase their food, rather than hanging out & waiting for food to be dropped to them that they don't need to expend any energy in attaining. It also seems to give them more vibrant coloration.

Pondering the purchase of a group of (juvie, I think) Perugia that are available through a little store called Shrimp Fever in Toronto.
