Now that i've had these guys, from you, for a couple of months, I'm hooked on them. Love how they 'school' and 'relate' to tank decor such as plants. They are totally unafraid of me, eat well and a variety of items. They seem to enjoy helping me work inside their 29 gallon. Adding some potted dwarf sag, and potted bacopa. Neat little guys. I think I have 19 or so of them..

I got a bunch for 10 bucks at the Minnesota aquarium society swap meet 9 months ago, and it occurred to me I may not have a female. You didn't mention the sexual differences. 👀 Voracious eaters, peaceful coexistence with others and beautiful spangling, I called them mini muskies, have never seen one at a pet shop.

Those are some neat little fish. Nice species profile. Yet another species I would keep if I had more tank space. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Just got some in my favorite shop. Never seen before and they are very good alternative for Guppies, which are overbreed and somehow do not fit into a natural water tank

Hi! When will you have any available? I'd love a group

A few questions: 1) Where can we find them in American stores? 2) How many babies does a female deliver each time? 3) Any chances of interbreeding with the other Poecilia species (guppies or mollies)? 4) Any other colors (blue, green, ....)? Thanks!

Check with your local aquarium society/club, that's where I got mine, five for 10 bucks. I have them with guppies and no interbreeding but no breeding from the Limia either after 6 months, I have lots of cover and java moss, maybe there's fry and I haven't seen them?

Something about dirty tanks that works. I think a “dirty” tank is usually better for most species as long as the water quality is maintained.
@DansFish

I with you, Aqua! Lots of beneficial micro organisms thrive in "dirty" tanks.

Limia like to search through mud for food. That is why the babies do better in mulm tanks.

What temp is best? Also can they handle high humidaty?
@DansFish
@DansFish 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen, I keep mine in the mid about 75 degrees F with no problems. Humidity is a measure of the amount of moisture in the air, so I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you ask about humidity. Could you clarify?

Will they predate on their fry in a 70 to 100 gallon system
@DansFish
@DansFish 6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I meant to talk about this in the vid! I don't have any problems with them predating their fry in my room. They are in my typical bare bottomed 75 gallon setup with a sponge filter, a box filer, and some floating water sprite (which might help prevent predation). I've had several batches of babies grow up in that tank with the group of adults you see in the vid. The only reason I sometimes move a batch to another aquarium is so I can feed them more frequently for optimal growth, but they also do just fine in the parent tank.

Very pretty fish. I wonder if i can acclimate them to full saltwater conditions
@DansFish

I don't know, Dee. They may adjust like mollies can. I've never tried it. Perhaps someone reading this will know and post below (hint, hint!).

Hello Jonathan, I'm not sure. I generally sell the young sooo fast that I rarely have adults for sale.

Are they aggressive? I bought 4 males, seem to chase each other and chase the female guppies.
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 жыл бұрын
I would not call them aggressive in the traditional sense. Males will chase each other, but I have not had them do damage. That being said, I keep them in good sized groups which spreads aggression...I've never kept them any other way so I'm not sure what 4 would be like. As far as chasing the guppies goes, they will try to breed with everything. I'd call them sex-driven, not necessarily aggressive. However, if you start to see torn fins or a fish getting super stressed with all the attention, perhaps a separation or adding more line-of-site blocks could help.

Dans Fish they’ve actually calmed down a lot now, they aren’t really chasing the female guppies, they tend to shoal together a lot and I think they are just dominant over each other, very interesting fish though, they don’t stop moving!

Hi Dan I have 9 females and 1male juveniles (only 1male left ) got them off a friend he been breeding them for few years .he had a problem regard male to female ratio.95%females ever drop . Any ideas? i will try to balance the boys. equality and all that 😊
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 жыл бұрын
Glenn, I don't have any idea. I currently have more males than females, although over the long term the sex ratio drop has been fairly equal. I have heard that hardness, temperature, and pH can each influence sex ratios, but I don't know if it is true or just hobby lore.

Limias like greens, so algae is a plus. I mash up lima beans and feed that to them. Limias are nippy with other males. I have seen the pull out the tail fin down to the peduncle, center of Caudle fins are missing.
