The difference between the US and Ireland is Irish families take their heart and soul to what really matters. The US , well unfortunately I was born here and am embarrassed to be a citizen here. Thanks to my family I am doing all I can to be a citizen of my heart and family I love soo much.

Wheñ came to Roscommon and border of Leitrim, I finally felt at home in 61 years on this planet. My family, my loves, can't wait to bring my children, grown now, but my loves. And they want to go ... It's keeping me going till I get there. If don't make it back, this is where I want to die with dignity, pride, most of all love...👀💯💚🇮🇪🍀💚

This is fascination. But I have to ask. Was this talk given on an asteroid? In the space of 10 minutes it went from midday sunlight to pitch darkness.

What is the title of the book, by Darrell Figgis, that Pat is referring to at the beginning of this lecture? Does anybody know? I would love to read this document written by O'Neill to Elizabeth back in 1599

They seem to have a LOT in common with the 6 nations of the Iriquois confederacy, as if the confederacy had been able to continue for a few thousand years instead of just 500....

The differences between Ireland the other European societies (or even that of the United States) are differences of degree only. Tribal groups everywhere fought for control of territory. Once relatively secured, those at the top of the tribal hierarchy gradually established claims of ownership over the tribe's territory. From that point on societies all became dominated by a "rentier" elite, that is, a part of the society able to claim in rents what others produced. Under feudalism, there was a degree of reciprocity; feudal lords had duties and obligations toward the people, collecting rents in order to support the administration of government. However, eventually, the landed elite saw to it that the costs of public goods and services were shifted from taxes on the rent of land to the wages of working people, to commerce between people and to the houses and other forms of capital goods people produced. One of the most insightful books on how this affected the people of Ireland was written in the early 1950s by historian Cecil Woodham-Smith, titled "The Reason Why," which explored conditions in Ireland against how the British regiments fighting in the Crimea were funded. Britain's absentee landlords who "owned" land in Ireland kept demanding higher and higher rents from the peasants working the land. "Rack-rents" were rents far and above the ability of peasants to produce and sustain themselves. The situation was later highlighted by reformers such as Michael Davitt, who adopted the strategy of the American political economist Henry George, demanding that the system of taxation be reformed to capture the rent of land to pay for public goods and services. Sadly, Davitt's efforts failed and Ireland continued to be dominated by a rentier elite, although eventually British landlords were replaced by Irish ones.

Disappointing to see so little interest in this subject. Sign of the times I suppose and yet I feel a reawakening is coming!

I am extremely interested in the topic, but I cannot grind through the presentation. This is an example of how someone can talk for hours without actually saying anything. I suggest the speaker organize his presentation better and take some lessons in public speaking.

He said a lot. I'm irish, I found this fascinating and learned a lot. His style is conversational. I don't think it's intended to be the formal presentation you sought.
