Breitling Super Avenger Review After Wearing Since 2009

I have this piece since 2009 and I can confirm the Breitling Super Avenger is built like a tank and has never failed me. The watch has not been serviced a single time and keeping time perfectly. I love it and I recommend this piece to anyone looking at Breitling

Breitling makes a fantastic timepiece and this one is no exception. It’s definitely built like a tank but I learned my lessons about swimming with a chronograph without screw-down pushers :)

I have the same watch I bought it in 2018. Took it to Mexico on vacation banged the hell out of it swimming playing volleyball Gym weight when I came back it was running 2 minutes slow since the watch was still under warranty took it in for overhaul and all good since then this is a watch that will never leave my collection. I enjoy your videos :)

@@IrixGuy Yup just subscribed! that is the only downside If you push accidentally water might come in. But I've been swimming with it and so far no Issues.

@@teddyhenriquez5192 I had water come in without pushing. I still like it a lot but only wear it in dry conditions now. Fortunately the international warranty covered the repairs.

Thanks for sharing this video. I have a similar Super Avenger 2 on the black Croc leather, people think I am crazy for having such a big watch but I have a 8 inch wrist and to me it doesn’t wear that big. Unfortunately the trend of 41mm and smaller watches has taken over and even a 44mm is considered big. I tried on a 42mm Superocean recently and it felt small to me..Really like the new Super Chronomat B01 from Breitling but there is something about these Super Avenger’s even with the size and the movement not being in house, its just an amazing watch and there’s really nothing like it👍🏽

Super Avenger is super comfortable. i think that the caseback design makes magic happen. I had the same problem after wearing the SA exclusively for several years. Now I wear 39mm - 42mm and all of those feel and look “normal.”. When I slap on my 44mm Panerai or Super Avenger, they feel huge. I have a 7.5” wrist. I have a feeling that the “big watch” trend may circle back in a few years. I’m wearing a 42.7mm Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver now and it’s probably as large as I go today. If you can’t do the 42mm SOHII, try the 44mm. It’s large but fits and feels great. I wear my 42mm SOHII quite a bit and feel that’s the perfect case size for it though.

@@IrixGuy Thanks for your reply. Do you still wear your Super Avenger much? I have a SMP 300 and Datejust 41 I end up wearing a lot more. I’ve been considering trading in or selling my Super Avenger for the new 44mm Super Chronomat with ceramic bezel and B01 Movement. It’s becoming harder to wear the Super Avenger regularly with the trend being around small watches

The size was what sold me on it back in 2009. Admittedly 39mm-42mm is likely the “norm” nowadays but wristwatch trends come and go. I expect that large wristwatches will make a comeback in popularity within the next few years.

@@IrixGuy thank you for this insight!!! I hope you are right. This super avenger is really in a niche territory within the Swiss “luxury watch” segment. For now I am looking at a Super Avenger. I tried it out last summer and the watch is still in my head!!!! 😅 I also like the titanium dlc coated version but I am really worried about the durability of the coating.. I am not familiar with dlc coated watches. Cheers to you, I love the channel because of the passion you transmit in the videos. 🙏

I have the 48 mm white face model. This was my first luxury watch gifted to me. It did have a mishap with the crown stem breaking but otherwise it has been a warrior. Yes, it’s tuff to wear it now at 48mm. I have it on a aftermarket rubber strap and it makes it more manageable . It is built like a tank.

@@bigbrotherwatchesdannyboy306 the crown stem gave out because I would over tighten it. The overall service including a polishing and movement thingy was like $500 bucks. Keep in mind that service was done years prior to these new inflation prices. The watch is super cool and wears best with a rubber or leather strap. The bracelet feels to bulky for me. .

Dirt can build up in these pushers and compromise the sealings . Especially when they are dirty and you pushed them .They can get stuck a bit and prevent proper sealing

What a great, well built Breitling. It really stands out amongst a bunch of look a like watches. Have you serviced the movement since you had it repaired from water damage? If yes did you use Breitling service or independent watchmaker? I have an 8 year old Breitling and not sure to send to Breitling or independent for service.

I only had it serviced under warranty due to water damage. It keeps great time and I haven’t serviced it. It uses the Valjoux 7750 movement, so most any reputable watchmaker could likely service it. My suggestion would be to have Breitling service it.

I've had mine since 2008 when large watches were all the rage. Now it feels heavy and even looks kind of silly (hockey puck size). Thinking about trading it in, but it's the first nice watch I ever bought myself and I may keep it for sentimental value. Overall it has survived a lot including regular dips in the pool/shower. It's been to Breitling twice for routine service. Hate those service costs.

Mine went to Breitling twice because it leaked but fortunately warranty covered it. I bought this one during 2009 when large watches were popular too. I say hold and don’t sell because the large watch trend will likely resurface within the next few years. It is hard to flip between this and a Submariner but after wearing it again for a few days, it no longer feels excessively large.

@@IrixGuy ​​⁠ Yea I remember when I switched from the avenger to the sub/daytona how small everything else felt. Now it’s the opposite. I think you’re right though. Better to keep it for nothing other than entertainment when I pull it out of the box every couple months. 😅

thats strange if the watch is rated 300 meters then u could dive with it if th watch leaked water there were somthing wrong with the gaskets.

The problem is that they didn’t have screw-down crowns for the pushers. I swim with my Tudor Black Bay Chrono and have zero issues. Breitling shouldn’t have stated that water resistance for the Super Avenger. I like the watch but for dry conditions only. That’s a bummer because I often like to jump into the water for a swim and would never leave a watch on the beach.

Mine is built like a tank. However the upper pusher button was bumped at Disney World by a woman passing by me. Totally an accident, but I noticed later it was pushed in and wouldn’t reset. I was careful not to get it wet and will be sending it to a certified repair shop here in the US. It’ll probably be better $1500-$2200 for the repairs. I look at it as the cost and responsibility of owning a high-end watch

Best of luck resolving the issue! My Super Avenger leaked twice but fortunately it was still covered by Breitling International Warranty and cost nothing for the repair. I won't take this thing close to the water anymore. I really wish that Breitling had not published such significant water resistance for this timepiece. Without screw-down crowns, it's risky to do anything beyond washing hands while wearing it.

I had it serviced twice during international warranty period due to it leaking. I now no longer take this one near water because the stated water resistance doesn’t seem to be accurate. Granted, it doesn’t have screw-down pushers but they shouldn’t include a stat r water resistance that isn’t accurate. I love the timepiece otherwise and haven’t seam with it since the international warranty expired. I also swapped it to a leather strap, to discourage myself from getting it wet while washing my hands too!

I mean bigger watches to me are still better. From Breitling 48mm to Omega 45MM. There’s no overkill. It’s a statement. I believe super avengers now do have in house movement. I know they used to not.

It has stated water resistance but as a rule of thumb, I only swim with proper dive watches that have a screw-down crown. I swim with the Tudor Black Bay Chrono but it has a screw-down crown and screw-down pushers.

I've swam with mine forever. No problem getting it wet. You just can't activate the chrono pushers while in the water.
