Brembo 19RCS First Impressions - Initial Thoughts - Triumph Daytona 675R

Just a small point, a smaller piston master cylinder produces more power, or larger brake caliper pistons do the same… you need to have a big difference to produce the power/ratio. Similar concept as sprocket gearing. So bigger is necessarily’better’ 👍 A larger piston does move more fluid as you mentioned.

You’re spot on, what I meant to communicate was that the lever does not need to be pulled as far to engage the brakes. In my head, that correlated to more stopping power. The lever should require more finger strength to operate now, but with less travel required to engage the brakes compared to the old master cylinder. That said, it did feel like I wasn’t needing to apply much more, if any more pressure than with my old MC, but as we’ve established, it and all its internal components were 10 years old, which could have made it more difficult to operate.

I have just fitted a second hand RCS19 I picked up on ebay and a pair of Sumitomo front callipers off a MT-09 to upgrade the front end on my Speed Triple. I'm looking forward to feeling the results. I know this is complete overkill for a street bike but we'll see how I go

I've got a gen 1 675 with the stock Nissan master cylinder on my track bike and they're super responsive and really progressive and my mate has the brembo ones and they feel like crap compared to my brakes, I think brembo make awesome breaks but lack when I comes to the master cylinder

Hey Jaryd! Thanks for sharing your experience! The Nissin setup on my old 2006 Daytona 675 I used to have were pretty good and had similar feel when hot to my 675R's stock setup with the OE Brembo MC. That said, this setup with the 19RCS blows both of my prior setups out of the water. I get a lot of feel with this MC, much more than the stock Brembo unit, and they don't fade much at all, which was my main issue with the stock MC.

rcs 19 was an easy install, i was expecting to do some wiring. that rear wheel hop was scary at first now but i am having fun with it.

Glad you had an experience with the install similar to mine! Definitely scary the first few times you use the brakes hard, but man is it great after that. Any reason in particular you decided to go for it?

Hey Chad, curious question, when was the last time you serviced the brake system/ fluid/ bleed prior to fitting the new RCS? The reason I ask is like previous commenters "apparently" the brembo masters weren't the best, I have both 09 and 13 with the nissin 19mm master with brembo Z pads which is pretty damn good I run medium fast and very rarely get fade, I notice all the things your mentioning when I changed pads and rebuilt the system, pads played a large part yes but I do feel like rebuilding and rebleeding the system properly made more of a difference and gave me that rock solid feel and feedback. Would you say the RCS is really superb or could much of it be attributed to fresh re-bleed and fluids ? Love the race videos, keep em coming, keep us updated 👍🏼

Hey Chris! I had fully flushed the fluid about 10 months before I added the 19RCS and had done small bleeds I think twice after that. I did a full flush about a year before that last one too. It does seem like the OEM Brembo masters they used on the 11-12 675Rs are hit or miss in terms of consistency and performance. The stock MC had never been rebuilt to my knowledge, so that could have certainly had an impact. I think the other big benefit and what I really like about the 19RCS is the reduced lever travel. It requires about half the lever travel that the original MC did to get equivalent braking force, although the lever does require a bit more effort. This is great for me though, as I would get to the point where the lever was occasionally hitting my ring and pinky finger under hard braking (I brake with two fingers). I’m very happy with the 19RCS thus far and am glad I made the upgrade. 🙂

@@hiimchad nice! Yeah there's nothing more unnerving than having that soft no pressure feeling in the lever. I must say the RCS is a nice looking bit of kit, it nice to know it performs every bit as good as it looks, Really enjoying the videos, bit bummed about your last spill in race 2 but that's racing, excited to see more trophies and top steps , I have a feeling your gonna do well this season 👍🏼

Can't decide if I should go for 17 or 19RCS for 765R 2020... Corsa Corta are propably not worth or road street use?

Nothing wrong with opting for the Corsa Corta if you'd like the extra adjustability! The 19RCS is recommended for the Brembo M4 calipers that my 675R is equipped with, but I believe the 765 Moto2 has the newer Stylema calipers. Not sure what is recommended for those, but generally, the larger diameter the master cylinder, the more force it will require to engage the brakes, but the less the lever will need to travel to apply that force. The smaller the piston, the less force, but with more level travel required. This assumes the pistons in the calipers are larger than that of the master. I forget exactly the relationship, so would recommend reading up on it before making a decision. It may be helpful to see what some of the Panigale V4 guys are running, as I believe those come with the Stylemas as well.

I just bought a RCS 19 for my GSXR 750 on the fulcrum adjustment which is less aggressive? Red side up or Black side up?

Red side up is less aggressive. Red side is the 18mm position, black side is 20mm. 18mm requires the lever to travel further to achieve a certain brake pressure than the 20mm position.

I have a 2007 675 with the stock first gen nissin calipers and nissin MC… i feel a little creak when pulling the lever and I have to pull it very far until it engages… basicly im tryin to justify to buy the nice brembo kit😂😅 But now to my question… as I read you also had a 06 gen 1 daytona before with the same mediocre non monoblock nissin calipers… do you think it would still be a worthwhile upgrade or should I upgrade the calipers first? Also very nice video! Good Daytona content is rare😉

Hey Fey! I would start with the MC before changing out the calipers. It will be less expensive and probably make the biggest difference. Pairing new Brembo calipers with a meh master cylinder that I would guess hasn't been serviced in 15 years aside from a fluid flush is still going to leave you with meh brakes. Calipers generally hold up better over time than MCs since there isn't as much rubber. And thank you! Doesn't seem to get as much attention as my Aprilia videos, but I still enjoy making them 🙂

Would you put one on the Tuono? Or would a 17RCS be a better size?

Good question! I’m honestly pretty happy with the Tuono’s brakes as they are for now. They work much better than the brakes on the Daytona did before the 19RCS, despite having less aggressive pads. I would need to do more research to make a decision if I did decide to upgrade it. I went with the 19 as opposed to the 17 for the Daytona based on recommendations on the Triumph forum and elsewhere online, and I’m very happy with my choice so far. If I recall correctly, the piston in the stock master was 14mm, so the 19 is a big change, although I suspect my old master wasn’t doing so hot on the inside based on the fact that it didn’t really feel like I had to exert more pressure on the lever of the 19RCS, it just traveled significantly less. That seems to be the theme here. All else constant, bigger master cylinder needs more force on the lever to engage the brakes but there is less lever travel required, while a smaller master cylinder requires less force but has more lever travel. Not sure what the size of the Tuono’s piston is, as it is a newer unit than my Daytona had, but based on the size of the casing I would guess 14-16mm.
