When he said British fighters doing well is good for the sport, I don't know exactly why, but he's right. It's such strong energy coming from that fan base and from those fighters. I honestly think it's just because they're all from blue collar working class scrums or tough upbringings of a society that has seen the working class robbed at every turn. When you take that energy and put it into the right place, it can really turn on strong and become a positive thing.

It was really irritating how the announcer somehow managed to suggest to every fight winner that took home a million dollars (well, won a million, based on NY taxes the take home is around $568k - then after the reality of the astronomical expenses that come along with fighting [trainers, coaches, not sure if managers would come into play with a PFL tournament like this, etc], VERY conservatively calling those expenses 15% would leave each million dollar winner with around $483k). That's still a LOT of money.. but not buy yourself and your mom a new house and ascend you into the upper echelon of society kind of money as some suggest. But back to the irritating part - how the announcer managed to suggest that the money was THE important part to basically every winner. Those people worked themselves half to death and literally fought themselves half to death to become champions. It seems a bit insulting to their integrity to just be like "yeah the belt is cool, but how about what REALLY matters, this giant gold Publisher's Clearing House check that's as much of a pat on the back to the PFL as it is a legitimate help to the fighter(s). The whole "richest night in MMA" thing is obviously an attempt to make PFL look like they're handling fighter pay better than UFC. I don't know what the breakdown is like all across the spectrum for the various promotions regarding how much people of varying success get paid from the duds to the champs, but knowing that certain individual fighters have in the past had more than the $6m total from "the richest night in MMA" lining their pockets just to set foot in the arena, regardless of the result.. the "richest night in MMA" thing is clearly a campaign, clearly an attempt to advertise their supposed goodwill just as much as it is to take care of their fighters - otherwise they wouldn't lean so heavily on the "wow, a million dollars, you're so luckyyy" schtick. At least not to the point of it being so cringeworthy.
