Shanahan has done more in a day than this organization has done in 10 years. Let's hope he can get the job done and FINALLY bring a cup home!

Saying everything I want to here from the leader of this organization, he is definitely the right guy to have in charge for the future and just hope he can bring in others like himself... Nice to see a guy who pauses and thinks before he speaks

Always proud of you Brendan! People of Toronto please understand that it will take time to get the pieces in place, He now has tripled his workload for the next six months to get a gm, goalie coach, and most importantly a head coach. Look i live in Detroit and we had to do this 3 times before Scotty bowman had to take over coaching and gm so i know about what your feeling and please be patient

Ah saying the right things, hoping the commitment to the future stays a commitment. Should have happened years ago, but hey better late than never.

The courage it took, for someone great like Shanahan to finally do a proper rebuild in Toronto, has us on the trajectory to become a championship team. This press conference was the starting point of that turnaround.

This man Shanahan represents the last great hope for the pathetic Toronto Maple Leafs hockey franchise. Given enough time and patience, he will build a winning team. He hates losing with a fierce passion and will not tolerate half measures or half efforts. After Shanahan's wrecking ball is done his work, the Leafs will begin a new era that will be far better than anything that came before.

It has been a long time coming. Thanks for doing what should have been done years ago and please look for people that have hearts for the leafs instead of dead beats who other team try to unload on the leafs. Giving away a first and second rounder for Phil Kessel was a big mistake and keeping people on the roster because they were there before instead of bring in guys with talent. I like Hunter as he always did a good job for London Knights and does know talent when he sees it. Nice job cleaning house now comes the heart search of GM, coach, and a team instead of individuals who earn big bucks and will not work or are scared to play hockey with pride and honour and Heart.

I trust his judgement. His wisdom has been proven on the ice and in terms of dishing out suspensions. His era was the most reasonable era I've ever witnessed in that respect, actually. Bell's far-left teachers' nonsense is my only concern about the Leafs and their future. There's something deeply, disturbingly un-Canadian about that group of people.

StephenAndrew777 A lot of these awkwardly abrupt reporters are an excellent example of Bell's broad scope of pervasive creepiness. Obviously.

The plan for the next 2 or 3 years depends on what happens in the next 2 or 3 years. Every team develops and drafts young players, you can't base your entire success on just drafting because you cannot determine whether a player pans out or not, very few do. The next 2 or 3 years are as similar as any given 2 or 3 years in the past, mistakes will be made and sustainable success is impossible. What the Leafs can do is give it there best shot, teams with character and belief go far. The mentality is the most important thing and attitude is the focus to improvement to any struggling organization because that is what is infectious in the long game. Get a mix of players who can play as a team anything is possible, but if the Kings and Bruins can miss the playoffs and both teams have won a grand total of 3 cups in the last 5 years, it is important to remember mistakes are on the way like every year, unfortunately the media doesn't quite see it but if they expect perfection and that 'not learning from mistakes' is the issue, the reality is plenty more are on the way unless the media think inhumane robots run the organization. The Leafs won't need time or a few years to get back on track, confidence emerges in a matter of a second, what depends on success is whether they bring a mix of good players with a drive to win. That can happen in an instant. Because you're young and developing doesn't mean for shit and a lot of work ahead is a lie, if a management believes that then excuses are gonna start piling up.

Chrisopher Drawn Life is short, waiting for developing players to make you're future success is not what to fully rely on, get busy living or get busy dying, and that goes for Mactavish as well.

I want to see the team draft a goalie or two in the top rounds of the next few drafts. It's more fun to draft forwards and defenders with good picks, but it's something the teams neglected for to long.

Hiring former players as executives, is ALWAYS a bad idea. Sure, he could put the puck in the net as a player, but what does Shanahan know about running an organization?

As usual spoken like a true salesman/politician....Sadly the proof will be in the doing. Will Shanny have the power to do everything that need be done and will be actually be allowed to? I hope so...but with the previous track record of the leafs....Not getting my hopes up too high just yet.

What has Shanahan done in his past with a nhl team, nothing. Why did we hire him in the first place. Look at Steve Yzerman he learned from one of the best Ken Holland paid his dues then gets tampa bay & look at that team.
