Sakic was one of those players that you could not help but deeply respect and admire. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that are fans of opposing teams say they dislike Sakic. Same with Paul Kariya.

@@alexlatta7555 You should reach out to them. The minor league players are usually way more entertaining interviews than the a lot of the bland NHL guys!

As an Avs fan from back in the Detroit rivalry days it was the same thing with Lidstrom and Yzerman. I couldn’t really hate them because they were such great players and class acts.

I love how much respect they had for each other. I've honestly never heard a story like that from any other sport.

Right?! No matter how much intensity there is on the ice, they respect each other at the end of the day! Hope you shared, liked, and subscribed Justin 👊🏽

It's funny how s short period of 20 years and times really do change quick. I'm sure there's classy captains out there, but the C on a jersey means something entirely different nowadays than it did in 2000. I hope the future legends of the game keep the class tradition going.

You know the level of respect was huge when a figure as cemented as Brett Hull is in the history of hockey to still be willingly refering to him as "Mr Sakic". It would have really struck deep with avery that it was a respect thing, and that Burnaby Joe was hugely deserving of it.

Had it been any other player, I don't think Hull would have spoken up. Avery must bring a negative aura with him everywhere he goes.

False. Hull had Avery live at his place. To this day, a lot of what Avery shares on his socials comes from Hull, especially music and artistic tastes.

Sakic was one of the best to play but I always will love Avery's antics, his play and his grit. The NHL needs more Avery's.
