@@Jump-2-the-moon ....? The "basic" playing is exactly burt's point. Brendan Buckley is insanely good and he knows that he plays drums to do what's best for the music at that moment. Shakira is who they came to see at this concert. It would be unprofessional to take away from letting her shine.

Clean grooves, nobody overplaying, clearly a well rehearsed band. This is how one plays behind an act like Shakira. Thanks for the unique perspective of your awesome career Brendan! Not a pop music fan, but I've always had an appreciation for the Latin influence Shakira's music brings to mainstream music. Drums are about the most important factor in that. Brendan nails the transitions between common pop beats and those syncopated clave grooves like a boss. Fabulous to watch, you can learn a lot by closely paying attention to how a pro drummer performs.

Good for you for thinking you are better than him. Not everyone is Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich or Dennis Chambers. He got this gig playing for one of the biggest acts in the world and you did not. He is nice enough to post videos showing us what it is like sitting from behind the kit with Shakira. I think he does a great job. That is my opinion, and obviously (more importantly) Shakira's. Good luck to you in getting the gigs by telling everyone that you are better than they are. I hope that works for you. Thank-you Brendan for posting. Not the type of music I would listen to but always interested in how people cover all the sounds in pop music like this. Keep up the great work!

I don't see why some here are negative? This is Shakira, the main focus is HER. Good grooves, nice well placed fills, good timing and overall very musical playing of him.

I've been drumming for over 7 years ruthlessly. I can rightfully say that he is a true professional. To play as tightly and consistently as he does takes ages, to be able to play these beats with this ease also means that you are able to play much more difficult pieces as well. Cause Brendan can play incredibly complex rhythms from African tradition and such. He never really plays them but that added skill makes the songs he plays that much easier and fluid more wiggle room for error's and have them be totally unnoticeable.
