Thanks for the tip on depth of field at longer lengths. It's been frustrating me lately not getting good focus. Your trip looked epic!
@BrendanvanSon2 жыл бұрын
Lots of people are still scared with high iso. But I always say, what's worse: a bit of noise, or a photo being out of focus?
@MarkJ17762 жыл бұрын
@@BrendanvanSon I agree. I finally raised my maximum ISO, and this week I started trying out f8. Now I'm going with f8 as the starting point.

Awesome video! We are on the trip in December! Curious what camera bag you had and what you recommend for a camera strap for the trip too. So you say a 70-200 is good, what other lens would you recommend too! Appreciate your advice! Thanks in advance!
@BrendanvanSon2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually don't use a camera strap. I lock my camera on to my Shinoda action x bag using a peak design clip. 70-200 will do the trick. I do prefer 100-400 for this trip though. It gives a bit more range

Could you have shot the pic of the penguin swimming like a dolphin in RAW format and gone back in and edited it to the way you like. Also is 200mm good enough or should I move up to 300mm or 400mm. Loved the video, trying to get tips for an upcoming trip there.
@andrewsturgess7072 Жыл бұрын
Correcting depth of field (blurred subjects) issues in RAW is not really feasible. You can sharpen and change the light settings but unless you have captured the sharp details of a subject, you cannot create them later. As for focal lens, watch every Antarctica video on KZbin that you can to get a sense of what the experts recommend. I'm taking a 100-400 since you may be well offshore in a Zodiac taking shots of wildlife, but also a 24-70 for landscapes. Brendan was reminding us that the longer the lens, the less depth of field, this becomes especially important when you are close to a larger subject so you need to shoot with a smaller aperture. Good luck!

Your tip about shooting from at least the penguins' eye level works for all manner of wildlife, as well as children, pets, and even flowers. Fascinating video and set of images! Everyone loves Adèlie penguins, but there's something about the flat profile and squinty eyes of Chinstraps that makes me think they're up to something.
