That made me laugh. I've lived in Japan for over 10 years and so when I was watching your video I was thinking, "those shots are pretty good, but I know his expectations are probably much higher having visited Kyoto before and got some bangers etc". Then when I watched your closing comments, I thought that was great to acknowledge how much our expectations play in the greater scheme of things and how we're always pushing ourselves for that shot that's going to do it for us. I guess the good thing is, when we look at our photography journey, we see improvement because of this constant desire to nail a better shot. PS: Jealous you got that shot of the pagoda in the snow - I've never been in Kyoto when it's snowed. I'm hoping it snows on "Coming of Age" day in 2025 as the only time it snowed when all the young people are out and about in furisode (the special kimono for this day) I was working.

Swift is not magnetic system. It’s based on popping filters on and off. Please don’t use it thinking it’s magnetic, if you do and think it sticks on then it wouldn’t. You would need to apply some pressure for it to be firm. Their magnetic system is called JetMag which they released in Fall 2024. I thought they sent you JetMag when you started talking about their “magnetic” system.

Getting lost in the daily is always the enemy to the dream. I went to journalism school when I was young because I enjoyed writing, never wrote again, but I did fall in love with black and white film (it was the 80s). Then I got busy paying bills and while my job provided a lot of travel, my photography feel off. Now I’m trying to rebuild my passion for travel/adventure photography, even if it’s just for me. Keep it!

Fantastic video. I’m just back from Zimbabwe (Hwange & Vic Falls) and a day trip to Chobe. The heat was harsh and the drought severe but I’d go back in a heartbeat. Your video captured the sights and sounds of Africa. Let me know when you’re back to Calgary. Cheers

For those visiting the Iguazu Falls in Brazil or Argentina, I was fortunate to find ND filters (variable, fixed, Hoya, Tiffen) in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. Easy to cross the border from either country.

Great to see you’re still going Brendan. Haven’t watched you in years. Loved your Norway and Iceland back in the day, but for me your journey through Africa will to this day always be your my favourite work even if the camera work wasn’t the greatest. The one thing you can say is your journey has given you a great life.

As a participant and an unsuspecting model (the guy in the Sossusvlei dunes), I can confirm that the tour was excellent and a lot of fun. Great many photo-ops which a couple of lenses, a 24-70 and a 100-600, each on its own body, should cover. I had the former and a 70-400 which, on the long end, was sometimes a bit short for wildlife. Many thanks again to Brendan and Neil!

Been watching you on and off for the past 4 years. More recently off! But the real reason is I’m not a consistent watcher is how many Sunrises and sunsets and mountains you can shoot. To be honest (if any conciliation the same for Greg and Thomas) the format you think is good no longer is attractive. Travel? Photography? Gear? The format is empty! Personal shit is what it is… adds a little seasoning now and then… but why is the channel supposed to satisfy for your audience? Simon does it skillfully and technically the best. I truly learn from that. Gavin entertaining but not sure what he wants to do. The niche is hard to fill and satisfy over the long haul. As an example I lost Thomas because he focused too much on his new Hasselblad. I followed him because of his Nikon, but when a pretty camera came bye, adios Nikon. I don’t have a clue what his focus is anymore? To summarize…it’s not you personally. It’s your genre. How much can we absorb travel and landscape shooting? Really! FYI… my favorite who I consistently watch is Jared Polin. He has excellent balance. It’s not the same Shit different day. He always keeps it interesting and fresh. A little bit of everything and I learn something. (Just an viewer perspective). As a viewer…i want to be entertained. I don’t want to be lectured. What maybe of interest to photographers isn’t necessarily an interest to us. I like to know why did you take this shot vs that? Why did you choose that lens? Why do you keep going to Patagonia? There’s so many beautiful places. Simplicity of the plains or Midwest . Inner cities broaden your skills and depth as a photographer. Your life changes over time. Don’t stay in the same suit. Try new things. Re-invent yourself! We watched you originally for your personality… he still there. Push your boundaries. You might be surprised. I may stick around just to see if you transform? All the best!

Over Labor Day weekend in Venice, even on the day of a major local festival, I had St Marks Square to myself pre-dawn during blue hour. Until the cruise ships land 8-9am, the city is very quiet.
