1. Take control of your emotional state when nervous/scared/etc. 2. Self talk in the 2nd/3rd person. 3. Focus on releasing tension, and setting intentions before transitioning activities. 4. Enjoy the process.

@LorenzoNW
@LorenzoNW 7 жыл бұрын
Taking control of your emotions is an illusion; It only empowers them. A more productive path is to not resist your emotions. That doesn’t mean you should act on them; It means to accept them, along with the awareness they are only temporary (for as long as you choose to recreate them). You are not YOUR emotions (i.e. I'm experiencing sadness vs. I'M sad). Awareness of this distinction leads to the clarity that emotions have no control over YOU. Attempting to control your emotions only leads to layers of mental garbage. “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear, DUNE

Great summary and my take aways too. These and the distinction between emotions and feelings. I now instinctively do the transition... Knowing exactly what I'll be doing next and how long, however, I've been doing this without the Release! That's huge. Thank you both for this video!

Glad someone finally said out loud that creativity is not correlated with high performance. I'm a very creative person from a very creative family and in my experience, creativity is a very mixed blessing. The BEST thing you can do is learn how to manage it. And to keep practicing how you manage it.

Being Satisfied doesn't mean you are not progressing, it just means you are treasuring the growth. I asked this question to one of my mentors, If I be highly satisfied, how will I thrive, I would not want to achieve anything, he didn't answer it for me back then. He told me to hold the question and not wait while I get an answer to that. Today that piece of puzzle is placed perfectly! Thank you Marie and Brendon.

Hearing Brendan talk to himself in the 3rd person made me cry. I have been in the habit of doing that lately and I realized by listening to this that there are a lot of high achieving habits that I already have. Alignment and release were very important takeaways for me. Esp alignment. If you've got your ladder leaning against the wrong building your whole life could pass you by without discovering what your real purpose is. Thanks so much to both of you do for sharing with me! God bless!

Creating that necessity... necessity. Wow. That really resonates. Strong preference is not enough; desire and hope for something is not enough. In my own experience, I find that to be sooooo true. Whatever I have manifested, I have not only felt "necessary", but even, in a sense, "naturally due" (not entitled, but more of an "yes, the goal and I are as natural as any other part of my current embodiment and could not be other"). But what really got me now is how easy it can be to let the necessity slip into just a strong option or possibility... or to loose sight of emerging or enduring necessity. Create necessity. Love it!

Dissatisfied striving only leads to burnout and lack of joy. I love this. the concept of being out of alignment even by four or five degrees can make you feel like you're living the wrong life. this was so eye opening and as I think about my own life I find it to be very true for me.

The healthy transitions was THE most beneficial to me at the moment. I work as a magazine editor part time, as a content creator here on KZbin, and care for my special needs daughter so the ability to switch from role to role has always been necessary but at the same time very draining. I'm going to try to use the technique you discussed and see if that helps a bit! Thank you so much for this perspective! 💕

My biggest insight is that we should "strive satisfied" and it relates to my own experience, finding out that the best journey to success is through gratitude and appreciation, plus perseverance. I used to be all work and hustle, listening to people that were saying that in order to do something worthwile in the world, you need to outwork others and give up leisure time. I ended up alone and depressed. Now I enjoy doing what I'm doing so much more and make sure I balance my work with quality time in my romantic relationship, conscious alone time, travel, and time with friends and family. Thank you for this interview, Marie, I found it very interesting and useful! You always ask great questions. :)

Brendon's last statement about generating happiness and joy really resonates with me. I'm in a project right now where 'the thrill is gone' or seems to be waning because of various things(I don't want to make excuses)..so I'm going to take the advice of 'releasing' tension about it and resetting/restating my intentions..sometimes we get side tracked with all the little details & I want to work on not needing everything to be perfect..finding joy and giving myself credit for what I've accomplished so far was what I needed to hear. Thank you Marie and Brendon for sharing your insights. -marie b.

Just watched this, so happy to receive these kinds of things in my inbox on a Tues morning. As a singer/songwriter so much of what he talked about and Marie talks about is helpful. To just enjoy the moment. I made my first music video recently (uploaded to my KZbin page) and I'm working on recording the 2nd song and putting together a video once we're done recording. I think of myself as a very talented person and almost all things in my career that others have to struggle for, comes easy for me ..but i never feel the necessity to perform and strive to be the best..maybe in my mind i think high expectations lead to more disappointment..but now i realise i have talked myself into being average in spite of my skills because i didnt feel it was necessary on my part to do my best and bring my A game...i will definitely work on it from now on ..thanks a lot Marie and Brendon..it was awesome what u shared😄🤗👌

You can kick ass and be a high achiever, but if you're not aligned then what's it all for? This part was great. The importance doesn't only lie in how we define ourselves in what we do but in what we're passionate about doing, how we balance that with all the other facets of life. If you feel like your struggling then that's a sign of misalignment. This hits home - thanks! I'll be picking up that book next! I would love to hear what Brendon has to say about people who define themselves based on what they do and the success they've reached. I'm wondering what long-term effect that has on a high performer or if they don't view their successes and accomplishments as a part of their identities.

Thank you for this. The release and intention was amazing for me, because I always multitask. I actually don't know how to switch it off, and I'll give this a go. Another one that helped me so so much was the last one. Strive and satisfy. I've always been under the impression that more can always be, and I'm rarely satisfied. Hey, I think the place where you are meant to be, is the place where you feel most charged, loved, meaningful, happy. You dont need to find your moment, you need to figure out what makes YOU happy, what makes YOU feel loved, what makes YOU feel like your life has meaning. You are afraid you are gonna be a boring version of yourself? Then find out what makes you feel excited to get out of bed in the morning, what makes you feel full of energy and alive. It's a journey that may need only a few minutes of thinking or a few years of discovering who you are and who you want to be. Though the journey and every discovery itself will make your life exciting and meaningful.

I also watched the other interviews he has done and still learned something from this one. I like the part on "‘strive satisfied.’”

I actually disagree about that self-talk. I unconsciously do first-person self-talk to myself all the time and it works amazingly well. It feels like I'm pandering to myself if I do 2nd-person or 3rd-person. I love reminding myself how amazing I am. I feel as though "coaching" myself feels weird and like I don't actually believe it in the first place.

Excellent interview, Marie and I have to congratulate you and Brendon for the wonderful insights. My "aha" is that many people think that if you are self motivated and "your own boss" you have to be a slavedriver to yourself... which is so very false and selfdefeating!. thanks again!

I believe that second last topic, that they talk about, of being dissatisfied to keep striving, is in general so: If you're being satisfied it is normal that people are less enthusiastic and into work. Because they feel this inner calmness and peace, they also don't need "any more" of the external stuff. This is why dissatisfied people are more into work and two of the most prevailing attributes - competition and greed, drives those people. If we would use only positive attributes of every character, the progress would stop. However, with the right concept, we still could manage a lot more, than in the days of competition, greed and envy.
