Hey mate. Good stuff. Can u show us how to do the fuel pump timing and maybe tune one of these days?

Wow, you make that look easy! Great stuff! I’m gonna give it a go myself, but I’m nervous! Do you absolutely need a rattle gun for the cam shaft nut? I have no access to one and can’t really afford to buy one. Also what exactly were you doing to turn the engine over there? Cheers and thanks again, great video. Nick

Very informative video. I will be doing this very soon to my 1-HDT. Thank you for posting.

Great video…. I would have liked to hear what all the torque settings were on the alloy timing belt backing plate etc. Also little hints and tricks with greasing parts and what kind of gasket sealer you should use etc, if you do indeed apply gasket sealer along with the gasket on the water pump, and if you had a recommendation/preference for particular brands. Thanks again 🙏🏼

How important is it to change the cam seal? I’ve not bought it for my FT and ideally need to do WP and TB before I go away in a few days as have no history of it ever being done !

I'd change it whilst you're in there. Having said that I wouldn't be doing a timing belt a few days before a big trip. As a general rule of thumb I always do big jobs a few weeks out from a trip.

Even though i saw that cam pulley move when you rattled it up...i am sure you returned it to the correct marks. And your method has got to be quicker than Modz's. How important is it to replace the thermostat at a set interval. and is that interval longer than the timing belt change.(100K km). PS I have switched back to the all copper and brass radiator because i ripped the lower water outlet off when trying to dislodge the radiator hose on the plastic and aluminium radiator. PPS How is that HDT FT that i saw install a few years ago.??

Yes rattled up, torqued and then turned to BDC marking. It's not too hard to remove cam cover and hold cam with hz or hdt but with fte it's a lengthy job to remove all the crossover and rocker cover. If you're careful it's fine to do it this way. I'm sure it's the way Toyota would do it anyway. Fte is going great. Best thing I ever did

Thermostat should be changed about every 3-5 years like coolant. Whenever you drop the coolant you should change the thermostat. It's the key to a correctly working cooling system. It's the part everyone always forgets yet it's so cheap and does so much.

@@brendonv101 Thanks for getting back to me....looks like that's a job to do...Meanwhile I have just figured out that the overheating in my 80 has been caused by the insufficient amount of silicon in the fan hub. Better do that too.

@@giterdunpete yeah unfortunately to remove the fan, you have to remove the top radiator hose as the fan and shroud come out as one. Only have to top up the coolant really but if the coolant is real old then it's a good idea to drop coolant, change hoses, clamps and thermostat all at once.
