You are one smart kid for a young fella You've taken on a big job and done/explained every step brilliantly. Wish i had the knowledge and confidence to do that level of mechanical work.

Brendon, I've got a 97 US fzj80 that I'm looking to convert to a 1hd-fte with an a750f. What's the biggest hurdle you see there? I know it's been done quite a bit but just want to know if wiring is going to be my biggest issue. Thanks!
@brendonv1014 жыл бұрын
Yeah wiring and fuel system changing over to diesel. You'll need a diesel pickup in tank and most likely bigger lines. Diesel requires 12mm feed.

Hi, Great video series, really helpful. I'm seriously considering replacing the 1hdt in my 80 series with a 1hdfte also. I have the A442F transmission which is an auto not a manual. Do you know if the 1hdfte will mate fine with the A442F. I'm hoping the answer is yes. Also the 1hdfte sump looks to be a bit different. Does this cause any problems with the 80 series cross member?
@brendonv1016 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yes the A442f trans will bolt up to the fte. All 1hz/hdt/ft and fte share the same block so the bolt up is the same. Just use whatever came from the 80 so shifter location is the same. As for the sump, if you use an fte from a hdj100 they have a different sump due to being ifs. In this case the sump and pickup needs swapping from your 1hdt. If you use a hdj78 or 79 series fte then the sump is all fine for the live axle 80.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I have been told by a mechanic that if I use my A442F trans with the 1HD-FTE the ECU does not like A442F and will probably make the engine go into “limp mode”. Apparently, because the A442F is an older transmission its electronics struggle to talk with the 1HD-FTE’s more advanced ECU? Any clarity would be helpful. The 1HD-FTE is from a 100 series. Cheers

Mike Davies wholesale automatics sell a standalone ecu for the trans.

You're supposed to do the valve clearances when the motors warm, reason being that metal expands under heat, especially operating temps. That's why they were 'out'
@brendonv1017 жыл бұрын
Sean Keyzer incorrect. Read the manual mate.

I'm not a mechanic, but I've built my fair share of engines.. I also have half a dozen friends/relatives who are mechanics, who have ALWAYS mentioned doing valve clearances when warm. It makes sense if you can comprehend what happens to the materials involved when they're subject to heat.
@brendonv1017 жыл бұрын
Sean Keyzer well lucky for you mate I'm a diesel mechanic so I can tell you the facts. Every engine manufacturer is diffeeent. Toyota list the clearances done cold so like a said, go download the 1hdfte manual and see for yourself before telling me how to do things.
