They were all "panicking" when Brennan was putting all the d6s in his hands.

It's pretty clear swearing just isn't a big deal for them (like for many people, whether they use swear words themselves or not). The way they use them mostly for humour, not because they're *really* upset, makes it seem like even less of a big deal to the viewer. Also there's a serious bandwagon effect where they all want to join in the verbal fun of whatever, whether it's their own version of a joke or swearing at Brennan, and these clips capture a lot of that. The bleeping just makes it silly, IMO; I don't swear myself but I have no patience for hearing censored versions of things, especially where the people involved weren't even considering a censored version when originally doing it.

Y'all I wanna say that I love Brennan's DMing even when he's a jerk because when the players do good they do Good when things are bad they're terrible. It doesn't ever really feel like he's railroading them or that they're powers are neutered. I say that cause I've watched or listened to Critical Role with Matt Mercer and the vibe is different so different. Where Matt is like the stern Dad when you do good you get a nod or something. Whereas Brenna is the Dad when you do good you go out for ice cream cake. If that makes sense.

The difference is pretty much all up to style. CR is a lot more serious story telling and that means the players take it more seriously. When shit goes bad in a serious game, everyone is crying, when shit goes bad in a comedy show, the players get mad. It's obviously all in good fun, but they lean into the fake anger, which doesn't really work in a serious game

That's the reason he literally went insane with laughter because he knew he was making a terrible decision but it was so perfectly in character. Albeit Brennan 100% made it worse when he decided to house rule that Trackers Sanctuary didn't work because "reasons" that should have applied the first time but only did this time. Then adding the tidbit of Fabian damaging the Hangman in his dominated state. Which honestly Brennan forced the Fabian part because he put Lou in a terrible position by making Whitlaw go down the street in the Crows Nest for whatever reason. Either stay true to your character and RP this the consequences be damned, or meta game and have it hang over your head that you objectively made the wrong choice for your character. Which Lou was only in that position because he was already having an RP moment of praying to his Dad which became his Dad's cult ambushing and taking him to their celebration because Brennan. The Fabian arc of that episode was Brennan creating situations where he knew what Lou's choice would be because it had to be this thing. Then him making it worse after the fact because he's the DM. Lou RPs better than everyone tbh but it also makes him very predictable and exploitable for Brennan to torture. Like the put Pete down if it comes to that thing.

Told Lou that the mind flayer was looking for him to fight him, put him right outside and then gave him enough men to fight back. It’s also very very in character. I just had my first DnD session, and because Brennan was the sole reason for me to start my life as an adventurer, this is the forum I'm using to share my experience. First of all, I fucking love DnD. We spent 4 hours being bumbling buffoons and doing, and I mean that, astronomically bad. But it was so fun! The only thing I didn't fail was my first roll, which was performance for a village dance. Then I repeatedly got blinded by the moon because of nat1 rolls while trying to check out the sudden werewolf plague, our tiefling sorcerer repeatedly faceplanted on the ground while trying to get on the roof of a building, only to give up and roll a nat20 stealth instead, our half-orc druid decided to use their talk to animals skill to get almost killed by a werewolf that obviously didn't want to be calmed down by a very stupid purple giant. Then our monk split, recruited a halfling ranger and decided to do a heist on the mayor's estate, because the mayor had just been kidnapped by werewolves, and both of them barely got out unscathed. Meanwhile, our rogue also split and got to horribly fail at threatening the village blacksmith into making him a silver-lined dagger. Not only did he walk in on the smith and his wife having sex, he also fucked up bad in the intimidation department. (don't give the guy that you're currently threatening your dagger and then roll a 2 on intimidation.) And the rest of the party discussed how to get silver weapons and after playing ping pong with the one silver sword they had, ultimately decided to just go to the hospital instead to get the half-orc back to health. Our current stand is that we have barely any weapons, half of us haven't even met, we're all scattered around the village, we don't have any information besides that nobody in that village is particularly helpful with anything and have 4 hours left to save the mayor and his family from a horde of lycanthropes before the sun rises. During the course of the game, I personally rolled 3 nat1 and in total we had 7 nat1s. And we did rotate dice eventually, so it was simply the worst luck anyone's ever had, and not our equipment that was faulty. Also, I'm pretty sure that the orc and I are the only two people who are aligned as good.

"Don't give the guy that you're currently threatening your dagger and then roll a 2 on intimidation" is universal advice for everyone, I absolutely love that. Your DM is probably kicking himself for not having arranged you meeting before introducing the challenge. It's one of those "looked good on paper" things.
