As for slugs, I left the Army 49 years ago. Before I left I worked a deer check station with the MPs in Fort Campbell Ky. Deer hunting with firearms on Federal property was with shotgun slugs only. We processed 186 deer in three days. I remember precisely because the results were, for me anyway, so remarkable. I found four slugs in the deer that were checked in to be removed from Federal property. All four slugs were 20 guage; every 12 guage slug was a complete pass through regardless of the wound placement or size of the deer. The 20 guage slugs were the Forster type as I recall. I do not remember ever seeing a second shot used. Nearly all of the animals just collapsed in their tracks. There were likely some short barreled shotguns used but the only ones I remember seeing were standard 26 or 28" length types such as Remington 1100s or 870s, that sort of thing.

Capacity vs stopping power, An AR or M4 does shoot a .223 but at over 3,000 FPS, a sabot slug is extremely heavy and does serve a purpose depending on what you’re using your weapon system for...if that makes sense so I’m by no means “knocking” you I’m simply explaining say a hunter might want it in case of a bear or to hunt bear. A military serviceman will use the slugs to breach followed by suppressive fire which is extremely capable of making people duck with its 30 round mags however I like a .308...but that’s all I’m saying. I would buy both...I do own both haha stay safe y’all!

If the Brenneke has more stopping power than a Foster slug, why not use it for home defense ? Is over penetration the issue ?
@theeasternfront64369 жыл бұрын
Did ya watch the video?
@jac12079 жыл бұрын
Frank Napolitano pretty much. It's a no brainer for when you are hunting or need something to put a big animal down. You can also argue that it'd work if you live in a very rural area where you're very far from other inhabitants in a situation where you might need to use this powerful slug. Now the problem with over penetration is that you're pretty much asking for a lot of trouble (both moral and legal) if you use it for HD in a dense or moderately urban environment. You MAY take down a bad guy, but there's a big possibility that the powerful round will go through the bad guy, the wall behind him, and maybe other walls beyond that. Not even to mention if you miss the bad guy, then lord knows where that bullet is going to go. That brings up the big possibility of hitting innocent people, something you're actually trying to prevent in the first place. There's of course another side to the argument that worrying too much and compromising too much to avoid over penetration might end up working against your favor in a situation where you can't afford one, but a good balance and planning + common sense is the best things to take into your consideration for a HD ammo choice.
@phillhuddleston94459 жыл бұрын
+Ja C It's not a good choice even in a rural area unless you are the only one who lives in the house.Secondly any energy spent after passing through the person is wasted so you are better off stopping power wise using ammo that barely penetrates.However if you are concerned about bears attacking you this would be great ammo choice.
@phillhuddleston94459 жыл бұрын

Shotgun slugs tend to penetrate walls with ease, so there's a chance you might hurt someone in the room behind the treat. If that's not a concern (like if you live on a ranch all by yourself with nothing but fields around and don't mind having to repair your walls) then the slug really is a great option for home defense, but most seem to preffer large to medium sized buckshot. Also buckshot recoils less and isn't as loud, normally. That's what I could think of, I'm sure there's more.
@bakanibaleni58658 жыл бұрын
there is one thing you guys who do slug shooting videos seem to forget . slugs are for hunting big game so you wont stalk wild animal until you are 30 feet , use reasonable distance maybe 50 to hundred yards then your results will be valid.
@floringiuvara85518 жыл бұрын
What you dont take into account are these are european slugs (german). There hunting is done usually by a large group of hunters split in half, with one half waiting and the other half flushing/scaring the game towards them. As such most shots are taken from a very close distance at a running animal with an unscoped shotgun shooting slugs or an unscoped rifle (for dangerous european game such as wild boar). In europe the only game which is really hunted in the american fashion of stalking with a scoped rifle is rarer mountain game such as ibex, bear, and occasionally dear and elk.
@bakanibaleni58658 жыл бұрын
Florin Giuvara so whats your point? German slugs are weak, the shooter has to be close to a target?
@notthesoap61568 жыл бұрын
These slugs are some of the most powerful you can buy. These aren't designed for hunting big/dangerous game they're made for defense against big/dangerous game (like stopping a charging bear at 25 yards.) If you're going to be hunting dangerous game you need a rifle chambered in an appropriate cartridge (like .375 H&H) slugs are so large that the amount of wind resistance they create just slows them down too fast for them to be good at hunting at range (at 100 yards most slugs will have lost over half of their kinetic energy.)

Thanks a bunch for this Brenneke video, TN! It'll be interesting to see something like a .308Winchester carrying the same amount of energy smack the gel around. I'm wondering if we'll see the block be as active with a smaller caliber, expanding, hunting bullet? Time will tell...

a few years back I decided I would use these slugs for deer hunting ,well I had a decent buck come to about 35 yards from my stand and I hit him hard right in the "boiler room " well he jumped crazy high and ran about 40 yards sideways to me and stopped so he was still 35 yards and I thought I better hit him again just in case ,well I put another in him in the same spot then he ran straight away to about 100 yards where it appeared he went down so I got out of the stand and I looked and he was up and running ,well I knew where he was headed so I ran over there and sure enough he came right by me at 20 yards and I put 3 shots into him ,looked like he went down so over I go and wtf he is up again so I put 2 more into him and down again I through a couple more in the gun and over I go and the SOB is up again !! 2 more @ like 15 yards and finally hes was down for good now that's 9 slugs all at pretty close range ,so I gut him out and there is no damage inside ???? get him home and skinned him and the slugs dropped every where and NOT ONE SLUG penetrated into the deer past the skin so yeah no more brennekes for me ------shot another that year with 1 oz Winchesters and blew half the deer away at 60 yards 1 shot so I saw no reason to look for a different brand!! and that's the gods honest truth I swear to it !!!!

Bullshit. Did u even watch the test? This thing penetrates like crazy. So your telling me these well known bear stoppers wouldn't penetrate a deer? And somehow your shitty Winchester "blew half the deer away." The brenneke black magic is made out of a harder lead and has better ballistics, so it would be impossible for your Winchester to penetrate better. There is no way in hell a slug like a brenneke isn't going to blow thru a deer. And a shotgun slug can't "blow half a deer away." Your so full of shit it isn't even funny. I shot my first buck with a 1 ounce Winchester, and it fragmented and barley reached the vitals, we had to track it almost 400 yds. Next season I used a brenneke green lightning to take 2 deer, both dropped within 30yds and both times the slug penetrated straight thru. I swear to it!! Now you have a real account making your story look silly. Your just a Winchester fanboy and I'm calling you out on it.

Seriously people this has to be one of the dumbest stories I've ever heard. It has bullshit written all over it.

well its very unfortunate there are dumb punks like you in the world I gave you a very true account of a hunt I had some years back I dont for a minute think that a brenneke slug wont penetrate a deer you dumb ass im telling you they sure had a quality control issue that day . a brenneke slug is nothing its just another slug it certainly isnt a better slug than any other if you think winchester just isnt able to make a slug as good as brenneke can you just plain stupid and ya know im not even a winchester fan I do have 1 winchester gun -22 auto its a piece of crap cant empty a clip without jamming i hate it about the only reason i even get winchester slugs is because they were cheap at a time when I didnt have much $$$$ and they seem to work just fine and you can get them for 3$ at walmart and i dont want to bother resighting my guns for somthing else that will work just the same on the other hand when i used the brennekes I was looking for a premium slug and the brennekes let me down on that particular day look I dont know wtf happened all I know is I shot at that deer 14 times and when it was all said and done 9 slugs came out of him and most if not all of those shot were inside 50 yards if you choose to not believe me but when you call me a liar and stupid now we have an issue

george lens Srry I was being very rude, I apologize. But none of them going past the skin? that's crap! A brenneke is antimony hardened. The only way your comment would be believable would be if you used a brenneke ko or sabot. I'm srry bud but a bear proven round is going to fail on a deer. What type of brenneke was it?

I love these slugs. I used "regular" Winchester foster slugs deer hunting in 2012. Budget reasons and I knew I would be close up anyway... My deer ran about fifty yards. I thought I had missed! With these Brennekes, deer have always stumbled flat on their nose. I had one go lengthwise through a Minnesota buck from the hip, through the heart. It stopped under the hide in the front of the chest. Hardly deformed at all. Boom. Lights out. I'm going back to these next year.
