Shadow Bonnet leads ALG3

NS 4002 and UP 7354 lead MALG3 (Manifest ALtoona Global 3) south, down Union Pacific's Kenosha Subdivision. UP 8162 is a mid-train DPU and UP 6207 is the rear DPU. This was filmed at the Puetz Road railroad crossing, south of South Milwaukee. It still has a set of crossing signals from the Chicago & Northwestern days.
Manifests on the Kenosha Sub are somewhat uncommon. Most trains use the parallel (and faster) Milwaukee Sub, a few miles to the west of this location. Today, however, there was a coke train making its way south and a northbound manifest waiting to meet it at Gurnee, Illinois. Due to the congestion, MALG3 was routed down the Kenosha Sub. The train will head to Lake Bluff, Illinois where they'll get off the Kenosha and make the short trip across the Lake Subdivision, then onto the Milwaukee Sub. From there, they'll continue to Proviso and then head out the Geneva Subdivision to reach their final destination of Global 3, in Rochelle, Illinois.

WOW, what a catch and I LOVE those bells! The train sounds on the track over the road sounded like drum or bongo beats. Just amazing how LONG this train was and only four engines doing the work of pulling the cars. Thanks for sharing the video and your interesting notes, Brenton!

Oh wow!!! That's fantastic! I record that track every time I'm down there but not this road, I'm talking about Cudahy! The trains I record down there usually be short.

Anytime I catch a train on those tracks it’s a great day. They were used way more frequently when I started watching trains in the 70s. Lots of great memories out there. If I do catch one it’s just the local heading back to Butler with a few cars. Do you use a radio to hear traffic activity? I just go by green lights! Thx! Great catch

Yeah, I have a scanner. I also use ATCS to see what the line up is at St. Francis. There's a good deal of luck involved in catching something besides the local heading this way, as well.
