I also went to a few live Raw shows and PPVs while he was actively wrestling, sometimes out of state. Now I have no desire to attend ANY live WWE, even if it's in my own backyard. Bret Hart was a filmmaker who wrestled. He was always sculpting his legacy and working to tell a much larger story. Bret had a vision of the story he wanted his career as wrestler to represent. A guy that, Bret just stayed quiet n paid his dues , went along with everything just so he could SHARE THE RING and learn from this guy... Bret, however proud he is of his carer n his background wiv his dad n stampede wrestling which literally, like Floyd Mayweather was modelled n groomed to be a wrestler from the womb, He was learning nearly everything from the age of EIGHTEEN, n saw it n learnt it all from a young age.. But there was another guy out there from across the sea in England, who was EVEN MORE talented.. and learnt shoot wrestling, gymlastics , japanese style, highflying, innovating stuff NEVER seen or attempted b4, rolls, flips the lot, and this was from SIXTEEN!! Yes Bret was a GOOD wrestler at 18 20..he became a GREAT wrestler at around 24. The dynamite Kid already was a GREAT wrestler at 18-19, he was the best, Bret knows it n has NEVER denied it. Bret is correct. Davey never took the time to apply himself with his promo's. He was in a great position in 1992 but could not put it all together to move up the next rung. His drug abuse and lack of charisma cost him a massive amount of money and a huge spot. By 2000 when he came back he was done, his body was shot and there was no way he was getting a top spot. A proper sad story.

@josephdelledonne20986 жыл бұрын
Davey Boy Smith was a huge guy that wasn't particularly ripped, kind of like Hogan. I can't watch The Wembley match despite how great it was; it's because to me Davey looked terrible, he had a huge gut. I remember I was actually big on Davey because of his size and power at the time, but looking back, as I mentioned, he looked terrible in 92. I remember he was in the ring with Bret once during an interview and my grandfather says that Bulldog looks like a fat pig! He looked better in 94 and 95, but he was just too big for his body. Those chemicals are no good. Vince still pushed him time and time again, and he main evented IYH shows with Bret and Shawn. He even main evented a show with Diesel. His IYH match with Bret was his best ever imo, even better than the Wembley one. He was in The Cornette Stable with Owen, Vader, Yoko, at times. He was pushed more than Owen was, and it seems they valued him a little more, so I guess those chemicals helped because if it wasn't for that, he wouldn't have gotten that push. He never got the belt though. I think the problem with him is no matter how hard they tried, he lacked charisma which is the single most important thing in wrestling. That's why fat guys like Dusty gets pushed and guys like Warlord don't. Furthermore, like you all also stated, he was terrible on the mic. He just sounded dumb, I remember one time with his accent he tried sounding like Stone Cold during his last run by saying he was going to stomp a mudhole in someone. Also, he had too many substance abuse issues. I wanted him to get the belt, but he would have been a terrible WWF Champ, he would have drawn worse than Diesel. In the states anyways where most of the business was done. His work was an issue to. He was big and could do acrobatic stuff here and there, and he was believable as a power wrestler. He had the great matches with Bret and Owen to. Now here's the but, despite everything, he couldn't have a great match with everyone. I didn't think his match with Diesel that everyone crumbs on was that bad, but the problem was it was nothing special. Davey had to be a worker because he didn't have the charisma of Hulk, the size of Diesel, and the fans were getting sick of seeing the one dimensional huge guys put on crappy matches anyways. They wanted more. Davey was great when he was in with someone great, but if he's asked to carry a match, he couldn't do it.

I don't know why Bret don't rate the Wrestlemania 12 Iron Man Match so highly as it deserved to be and in fact do recognized as one of the best ever matches in modern Era of pro-wrestling? On Eric Bischoff's issue it still perplexed me that a guy who is still credited with the innovations of Live Monday Night Nitro, borrowing and adding new dimension to the anti-establishment faction NWO, to create a heel of probably the greatest crowd puller of all time in 1996, creating story lines based on reality based characters and to top it off, he was the one who quite possibly came ever close to putting the spanner in the juggernaut of pro-wrestling promotion, WWE back in the day, was so ineffective or helpless to utilise the enormous talent like Bret Hart and others in WCW. Was Eric really in charge of booking the matches in late 1990's or were he delegated that responsibility on his blue-eyed minions like Kevin Nash? That would be a point worth for a research and debate.

Hogan had some agreement in contract forget exactly what they called it but he could effectively decide overrule bishoff on wether or not he would loose or not. Anyways Bret did arrive there on fire at top of his career and they didn't use him. Effectively they buried him. He mentioned how Hogan came in and beats up him and goldberg. Goldberg was on this invisible streak and red hot with the fans/$. Crowd draw. It's as if these guys were there on the inside wcw killing what was wcw ratings draw and thereby helping wwe. I am a Bret Hart fan, but is he losing his mind? He questions why WWE won't acknowledge Owen Hart and put him in the Hall of Fame? It is Owen's wife, Martha, who is against Owen entering the Hall of Fame, and she is the main reason why WWE will not acknowledge Owen Hart. In fact, Bret admitted this on many previous occasions.

Bret was my [ and almost all of my mates in England] favourite wrestler of them all when i was watching during the 90's. I havn't seen as many wrestling matches as some, but I remember seeing Bret hart v Mr perfect for the IC title in 1991 and thinking, THAT'S the best match i've EVER seen up till now.. Then I saw Bret v British Bulldog at Wembley in '92, and thought ok.. this is another level.. It was just so insanely fast paced at times, and the technical skills by both BRILLIANT. Bret is right though, that match made HIM, RATHER than Davey. TOTALLY agree with Bret when he talks about Bishoft. I don't know him, but he seems to have FRAUD written all over him. ALL that guy did was get WWF/WWE guys in, and spending money that wasn't his, not caring if the books were balanced he just threw money around n of course a lot of top wrestlers r going to come if u offer insane money. If u listen to Bishoft speak, notice he avoids talking about actual wrestling, wrestlers styles, actual matches, moves, differences in technique. HE NEVER WILL talk about it cos he'll get shown up. All he does is yap on about 'building a product, hitting targets over taking wwe..blah blah.. HE'S BORING N SHOULDNT HAVE GOT INTO WRESTLING.

Grates, though, when Bret makes out that we filled Wembley to see him lose rather than see Davey win.

When Davey Boy told Vince he had a bad drug problem and couldn't wrestle, Vince flew him that night to rehab in Atlanta. He paid the $75,000 treatment cost and paid him his salary for 3 months. Davey Boy revealed this in a interview with Rick Bell of the Calgary Sun.

Bret is absolutely correct in his statement. He came from an Era when there was no such thing as a “creative team” and wrestlers actually had to construct and execute their own stories in the ring. That is an art form that has sadly been lost. Thank you Bret for all you gave 🐐
@davidrichards6059 Жыл бұрын
U do realize if there was no creative team there would be no screwjob?? There is ALWAYS creative teams in wrestling. SOME wrestlers had Bret's freedom but Vince still basically knew what was going to happen. As well as the creative team.

Dynamite was literally one THE best wrestlers of all time and probably the most imitated wrestler of the last thirty years, so for him not to be in the HOF is a joke, despite what anyone thinks of him personally.

Would like to see a tag team of Bret and Nailz, would have been an epic feud with them fighting McMahon. Otherwise, one thing I didn't really get from this interview was Bret's thoughts about Bischoff. I mean, okay, he made some veiled fairly cryptic comments but it's like he was afraid to really speak his mind, which is kind of unlike Bret.

I would love to meet him and just talk wrestling. I met Jim Neidhart years ago and all I could think about was "Wow! Bret Hart is his brother in law"!!
