Bret Hart is out of his mind. His look as a wrestler is ICONIC. The white black and pink boots with the star on them, the black and pink tights, the leather jacket and who could forget the pink wrap around shades that he always gave away to a lucky kid in the crowd before entering the ring. Iconic look and swag...

Bret really helped propel Austin with their matches and feud, and honestly I do think his legacy is nearly unmatched. He carried the fed through their toughest years, and whether or not people want to give him the credit he deserves, he was the best worker during his time at the top of wwe. He also helped elevate Shawn an awful lot, which is something people seemingly never recognize. Shawn was great at high spots and charisma, had impeccable timing and selling, but Bret was tons more believable. His psychology in the ring is unmatched to this day in my opinion, and really could work a good match with just about anybody. Greatest of all time in my opinion... Shawn, Ric, Austin, Taker and Angle are in the conversation as well but Bret has my vote.

It's so weird to compare Bret and Shawn. To me, they are the two best in-ring performers of all time, and yet their styles are so different. I think Bret told a better story, I think his moves looked crisper and more fluid, and the way he took bumps was much more realistic. Bret made everything look more real. Shawn on the other hand, was more athletic, ballsier and a lot quicker and more agile. Shawn worked best with the really big guys, bumping around the ring like a pinball. Bret, on the other hand, worked his best matches with similar sized guys. If you look at their mutual opponents, Shawn had better matches with the bigger guys, and Bret had better matches with the similarly-built guys. I don't know how to call it. Shawn had the longer career, but I think Bret was a better champion. Gun to my head I'd probably say Shawn is objectively better, but I like Bret's work better on a personal level. I value the in-ring technician stuff more. One more thing, I don't buy the idea that Shawn sold better. He was louder and more animated, but Bret actually looked like he just got fucked up. Grabbing his throat, taking the chest-first bump into the turnbuckle. I think Bret sold better than Shawn, by a fair margin.

That is not true. Think about it. Bret wins the title in 1992. Drops it in 1993 and they try to make Lex Luger. Who did Vince put the belt back on in 1994? Bret. When he dropped it to Shawn at WM12 and left the company he was negotiating with WCW. Why did Vince bring him back if he wasn't a draw? Who got the belt in 1997? Bret. So the point is, that if Bret wasn't a draw Vince wouldn't have continued to go back to him and put the belt on him time after time. Now I will agree that Bret did not match Vince's vision for the Attitude Era and that had something to do with Vince allowing Bret to leave in 1997. But to say that he wasn't a draw doesn't match up with how Vince does business. If Bret wasn't a draw Vince wouldnt have kept going back to him with the belt multiple times and he wouldn't have brought him back in 1996.
@Cableguy154 жыл бұрын
Well, in the mid 90's, nobody was drawing in wrestling, really. It had become so stagnant. Is it necessarily Bret Hart's fault when the rest of the roster consists of dentists, hockey players, and giant chickens? I've always felt that way about Nash too. He proved to be a draw when he was surrounded by the right people and wrestling changed. 1994/1995 had to be some of the most boring times in all of wrestling history. Flair and Hart have always said bad things about one another. Imo they are both wrong about each other. Hart was a top heel in 1997 that absolutely did help draw, and Ric Flair's matches were certainly not all the same.
@sleazyfellow3 жыл бұрын
Bret drew about as anyone could in wrestling after the huge scandals of the early 90s. Drew more than flair who was in the WWF in the early 90s, and more than Shawn and diseal in the mid to late 90s in WWF. Was he up there with the really big draws? No, but he wasn't the worst draw ever. I think diseal holds that record.
@Thor-Orion3 жыл бұрын

People can go on all they want about Bret Hart the wrestler and how 'bitter' he apparently is. But Bret ALWAYS has a human message when he talks, even in the most basic of life lessons. Tragic to hear that him and Smith were diagnosed at the same time but it was too late for Smith. And is he bitter about it? No - he's conveying a positive message to the people listening who may be in the same situation in their lives. And this, is why Bret Hart will always be one of my heroes. Marks who disagree are redundant to this argument.

Brett sold better than Shawn. Had a more realistic in ring style. Shawn had more charisma and more high flying spots. It depends what your cup of tea is. In my opinion Bret is the best in ring worker of all time simply because his matches were the most realistic and when he sold you genuinely believed he was in pain. His punches are as good as they come. You can't help but suspend your belief. His psychology and story telling in the ring far surpasses anyone else as well. I've been watching back a lot of his matches lately on the network and seriously every match is great and he brings something different to every big match he's ever had unlike A lot of the big names from that era.
