Is one allowed to walk in and ask to volunteer to help? After, the overtly caution is down to a normal level of be careful but don't let virus run your life. I feel even more for the elderly because of how closed off they are even more so. I've always wanted to help, but I get scared of not knowing the protocol to assist.

When I was in middle School I volunteered 300 plus hours at a nursing home that was right across the street from my school and there was a little lady that had dementia really bad she thought I was her friend. Even though we talked about the same things everyday I enjoyed it so much and now due to my medical problems I can't work around people like that it breaks my heart because I know there's so many that don't have families 🥺

A woman who was in my nursing facility thought I was her daughter Angela who died at 17. She always held my hand and told me stories about her daughter growing up. It broke my heart when she had a moment of clarity and said "my baby's dead, isn't she...thank you for everything" the weekend before she passed. anyone who works with dementia patients has probably had an experience like this song.

Hey, I'm a CNA in a small nursing home in Grangeville, Idaho. I found this song while I was scrolling through KZbin. I just wanted you to know that I cried and so did al of my coworkers when we listened. It is an amazing song and still gives me goosebumps. You hit everything spot on. Being able to take care of people and visit with them about their lives and to be treated like their family just fills my heart with joy. Doing what I do for a living is the best thing. And this video shows all that. Thank you very much for this song and this video. It touched my heart and made me realize how lucky I am to be able to do what I can for people who need it. I just thought I owed you a thank you.

I love it ..I have a patient who has dementia and gets violent out bursts of cussing and throwing things.... he gets frustrated easily because he cant remember but he has taken to me ive been able to connect to him and he thinks im his daughter .. ( ,his daughter passed away ) ,.... I get calls from his wife and other kids during all hours to come calm him and as soon as I walk in his room ..his entire face lights up and he smiles and says " my daughter .... plz forgive me for im old " .. ill just hold his hand till he calms ..this song reminds me of him ....its an amazing feeling to b able to connect to someone on that level. Even if your not who they think you are ..if it helps them ...thats all that counts

I cry every time I hear this song. My brother has known this older couple for many years through his highschool friends. He calls her grandmother and when he was alive he called him grandfather. Everyone did. He still goes and visits her a lot more now that her husband is gone and no one sees her and it's sad that you spend your whole life raising families that leave you lonely in this world and somewhere God always has an angel for you. I believe in my heart they are both each other's angels. That is why this song makes me cry for sadness and for joy. May we learn to love one another and to never leave anyone alone. God bless 🙏❤️🥰💙

It's physically impossible for me to listen to this song without shedding tears. I just recently bought Brett's album because I am seeing him in concert with a friend soon. I wanted to be familiar with all of his songs. Little did I know I would stumble upon this amazing song just when i needed it. My grandmother has alzheimer's and my family just recently had to move her into a 24/7 memory care facility. My grandmother and I were extremely close; She declined so quickly and I miss the old her terribly. Raymond gives me some comfort and strength when i need it. The disease is truly heartbreaking. It takes away your loved ones and leaves you with a different person and a broken heart. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering because of this horrible disease. And thank you to Brett for writing this amazing song.

My name is Raymond and I work as a CNA in a skilled nursing facility. First male CNA to ever win CNA of the year at this facility. In the 40 years it's been opened. I work on a rehab unit and I genuinely care for people I love making my patients laugh. Never really got into country music or anything but recently I had a little lady recieve her wings and her daughter called up there and asked me to meet them at a Starbucks when I got off she had something for me as a thank you for caring so much for her mom. It was a thank you bag she put together for me with a few different things in it but it had this CD. I didnt even know this guy and she begged me to listen to it but my car doesn't have a CD player so I looked it up on KZbin and immediately I began to cry. Not only is my name Raymond but it really hits home for me. This song will forever have sentimental value to me. Every time I listen to this song it gives me chills and a overwhelming sense of emotion. RIP Ms. Daniel

This song reminds me of a story. Just Stay: A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. “Your son is here,” she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement. The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients. Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night. Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited. Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her, “Who was that man?” he asked. The nurse was startled, “He was your father,” she answered. “No, he wasn’t,” the Marine replied. “I never saw him before in my life.” “Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?” “I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn’t here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, I knew how much he needed me. I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His son was killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform him. What was this gentleman’s name?” The nurse with tears in her eyes answered, “Mr. William Grey …” The next time someone needs you … just be there. Stay.

This reminds me of growing up. Every saturday mom volunteered at a nursing home and assigned each of us 4 kids a person to visit. Those people had no family to visit and acted like we were their own grandbaby. No questions and the nurses told mom they woke up so excited to see their babies on saturday and would tell them all about what they were going to do with their baby that week all during the week.

I assisted a widow the last several years of her life, met her doing various repairs & church projects around & eventually inside her house, that was in a very sad state of disrepair. Eventually had to assume more responsibility over her care, she had a son… but he never visited or helped his Moma, only showed up at her funeral to claim her $$$ & lay claim to her home & possessions, I tried to keep her in her home as long as possible but it became incredibly apparent she could not care for herself & my daily visits were not enough, so she spent last 3 years or so in nursing home. It was best for her as visiting nurses was not enough either she needed constant care & supervision. Although she knew I was not her son, most of the nursing home staff thought I was. Often asked me how I was related, her son or perhaps a nephew, had to explain we are not related, Tried to give her the same love & care I would want for my own mother. It was sad, as she desperately wanted and needed her real son to be there. He was not but I was until her last breath & then had to arrange for her funeral & honor her last wishes… Which is the only way her son ever knew of her death, As she wanted me to find him & give him her old Bible.

Ya know...I had a TBI some years ago and don't work now. I'm 43 years old, have a great wife, 3 great kids...but I've been looking for something to do with my time when I'm not being "house husband". After seeing this video and really LISTENING to this song, I think that I'm going to look into possibly volunteering some of my time and talent (I play guitar and sing) at our local retirement home to try to give something back. I honestly believe that no one truly wants to be alone and I have people that love me and care for me. I just feel that I need to give some of that back.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. When my family and I visit our three relatives with dementia in their nursing homes, it always breaks my heart to see those that don't have anyone to visit them. We try to also spend some time with them and help them feel a little less lonely. In every home there are always residents who would appreciate a visit, someone to talk or just listen to them. I bet they would love your music too!

Before retirement, I was a nurse in a long - term care facility which also had rehab patients. The good days were when a rehab patient went home. Also, although sad, I knew I had allowed the person who left earth left with dignity and I was able to comfort family in their time of need. It's not about shoving pills into someone but to make their life as meaningful and ❤as comfortable as possible. I would love that all nurses had that attitude although they don't. I led some to the Lord. We weren't allowed to ask about beliefs so I asked if there was anything they needed to talk about and surprisingly there was. A family member once said she had been trying with her brother for years. With tears of joy streaming down her face, she hugged me. He passed to Heaven within a week. ❤I also pretended to a dying man who was waiting for his daughter. We knew she wasn't coming so I filled in and took her place and told him I loved him and if life was too painful, he could go. And, he did. Tears hearing "Raymond". Very meaningful.

@@GLJ94 I remember the days well. Those were nice days when a resident went home and could have a life outside a facility. I had to retire medically and am in poor health. I surely do miss those days 0f nursing. We wore the white uniforms except last couple of years along with caps. I got my licence in my mid 30's. I'll never forget getting capped, pinned and the oath "first do no harm." I was a CNA prior to being a nurse. Their job is hard; your job is just as important to make a person comfortable with clean clothing. It takes the whole team and you ARE important. You seem such a caring person. This song sure rang true for me. I have been who brought that resident a smile. There is no orienting them, the ones with Alzheimer's/dementia, only tears of sadness and confusion if you try. A few times got thanked by family for standing in for that special loved one. A man dying waiting for his son we all knew wasn't coming. I became him. Led a man to salvation, unaware his sister was listening (it was a big no- no to do that with loss of job). She threw herself in my arms and said 30 years of trying. God bless you.

My step grandpa had Alzheimer's when he passed in '96, twelve days shy of his 82nd birthday. Flash forward to a few months ago. I drive a cab for a living, and some of my customers live in retirement communities, retirement homes, or assisted living facilities. I walked in to one of these places to get my customer, and I couldn't help but notice that a group of residents were playing hangman. Let's just say I had to hold my emotions in check.

I have been trying for so long to not go back to old habits and I absolutely feel my grandpa, aunt and uncle hugging me as I type this. I work in a hospital and see patients come and go, but I hope that each patient we help knows we are thinking of them. I walked into his room one day while his daughter was visiting and as usual he greeted me with "Morning Abby". This song is a reminder of my grandmother, she's in assisted living, you can't hold a conversation with her, she talks to herself, skips between subjects, is hateful to family, she is NOT the woman she was, Alzheimer is a thief that sneaks up on you. A reminder, spend as much time with your family as you can, because theres a good chance, one day you'll lose them, but not due to death, something much worse.

Nursing homes prefer those with dementia to be heavily medicated, and strapped in a wheelchair, wearing a diaper, change them once a day. They send them for a psych evaluation at a mental facility, to get the medications set till they are lucid, so they do not have to deal with them, while that charge $1000+ per day for their stay, having them sign away their house for their care. Seems like an awesome racket nursing homes are running, overcharging people that they aren't really caring for, having them live in deplorable conditions, stealing their homes when they pass away, and the fun part, familys are forced to care for, upkeep those homes while their relative is alive, paying home owners insurance, etc, making damn sure the money saved is gone!

Alzheimer’s is a thief, for sure. I’ve been caring for my husbands grandmother for 5 years now she is in her last stages. I found researched high and low on how to help the violence and crazy words.. one thing and one thing only has helped her remember. Cannabis oil and lithium orate. If used correctly has been known to reverse dementia/Alzheimer’s. she is not on synthetic prescriptions and it’s made all the difference. Her doctor is all for the cannabis and lithium orate. she can finally live her life, before she goes.. I’m so sorry your grandmother passed away. It’s true, it’s not death that takes them.
