You mentioned one of the disadvantages of the Bambino is you can't pair it with a timer or wireless power adapter to have it turn on and be ready for you in the morning. I think this might be a moot point when considering that the Bambino takes 3 seconds to heat up. I can't think of a scenario where one would not be able to wait 3 seconds to pull a shot.

Wrong! I was burgelrized the other night and chased out from the bad guys.. that 3 seconds would have slowed me down to much and prevented me from pulling a shot
@LifestyleLab_2 жыл бұрын
It’s a moot point on the Bambino because it requires blank shots to properly heat the portafilter. On other machines with more traditional heating systems, this idle time allows the machine to warm up the group head and portafilter naturally without the need for blank shots. If you schedule it to turn on early, this is very convenient :)

BE CAREFUL if you follow his advice on steaming with the Dedica! The rubber tip of the steam wand is locked into place with the metal piece, and when you remove the metal piece then their is nothing keeping it secure. It will work for a few drinks, until the pressure from the steam inevitably causes the rubber tip to quite literally fly off (and usually right into a cup of hot milk). If you go this route, use a zip tie or something similar to lock it in place.

I have a delonghi dedica but could not get any temperature difference when changing the set up, but here some tricks to improve espresso quality of light - medium roasted coffee: Push the steam buttom and wait until the machine is ready then turn it off and wait 3 seconds, turn it on again and it is ready to do an espresso but with hotter water. The few extra degrees are enough to make sweeter espresso. If you are using a 18gr basket the preinfusion cycle in the machine is not suitable for that ammount of coffee so the lower part of the puck does not get wet. You could try to run two preinfusion cycles stopping the first one just after it finishes and then run the complete cycle after waiting 5 seconds, with that you will avoid channeling of the lower part of the puck and get better espresso
@meryleastwood69772 жыл бұрын
Or just set your water temperature on high.
@benpptung0747 ай бұрын
Great idea! I just tried it and found that my Dedica releases about 9g of water for each pre-infusion. So, I used two pre-infusions, which means as soon as the machine stops running, I immediately turn it off and then press it again to start the machine. The difference won't exceed 0.5 sec, so there's no discrepancy in the overall brew time calculation. I noticed that the coffee became a bit lighter. However, this method of extending pre-infusion is really great! Regarding the temperature settings, it's interesting because I feel different temperatures result in espressos with different tastes. Next time, I want to try this trick you mentioned for light-medium roasted beans.

i owned a Bambino Plus for over a year. I had changed the filter basket to non-pressurize type after 1 month use. I had also added other accessories such as WDT, OCD and a standalone grinder. The Bambino Plus milk frothing comes with 3 heating temperature settings. The highest setting will achieve about 63-65C, pretty consistent on every cycle. As for the group head temperature, I had done an experiment for assessing the temperature. In order to achieve the desired temperature of about 92-93C, minimum 2 blank shots will be required. The blank shots will not only heating up the portafilter but also the entire group head. On the reliability side, so far it had broke down due to the power supply. We make 2-4 cups a day, not a heavy user. Other than this, it works so far. You will need to follow strictly on the maintenance prompted by the machine.

I took a chance and bought a Bambino after never using anything but a Mr Coffee. I wouldn't know good coffee if it hit me in the head. I used a good hand grinder and make my own version of a large latte. It tastes great (2 fake sugars). I don't care about having this as a hobby but just wanted coffee I could like and this does it. I have no plans of changing the pressurized portafilter and if I'm patient (rare) I can have good foamy milk for the latte. It's quick and easy and the only real problems are the knock hand grinder's 40 second workout and that the basket barely holds 16 grams of coffee. The video did clear up some misconceptions about a bambino I got from another review video and I don't regret buying this and not the bambino plus.

Nothing to do with steam flow, everything to do with air integration. To get foam, you need to add air into the milk. With a manual steam arm, you need to get the right technique to accomplish this. With an automatic steam arm, it handles the air integration for you.

I only use the Dedica, not the Bambino. The Bambino's 54mm portafilter and pre-infusion sound great. However, I always feel that its lack of brew temperature adjustment is a significant shortfall. This might be because I've gotten used to the Dedica's feature of having three water temperature settings. I can select the water temperature based on the roasting degree of the coffee beans. I find this very important. For instance, once when I was dialing in Lavazza espresso beans, it was constantly over-extracted until I lowered the water temperature. Suddenly, the espresso became very delicious. This experience made me feel that an espresso machine without the ability to adjust water temperature is unacceptable to me.
@LifestyleLab_7 ай бұрын
Yes temperature can certainly be important! The Bambino Plus and upward all have temp adjustment. If you are ever in that situation again, remember that you can always shorten the brew ratio to reduce extraction. Temperature adjustment is actually a pretty subtle change relative to water yield.

I know this might not apply everywhere, but if you are in the market for a semi-serious entry level machine, wouldn't a Gaggia Classic or Pro be a much better option than the Bambino? The Bambino is priced $350 US on Amazon while the Gaggia Classic Pro is $410-450. Unlike the Bambino Plus, the Bambino do not have automated milk froth, so it cannot compete on feature, only on price and footprint alone. That's fine, but then the old Dedica without proper steam wand is only $265. Should you spend that money on better features mostly, or should you spend another 50 and get a much more mature machine? If you don't want to spend that much, then why not just get the Dedica? You can use that extra money on a good grinder, or for something else if you are not going to be serious about your espresso. You can even get the Dedica a good basket with that money, even a proper steam wand mod. I think both the Bambino and do not make sense to most buyers. If you like features, then only the Bambino Plus makes sense. Then again, on Amazon it costs $500. At that point, unless you cannot be bothered to learn to steam milk by yourself, then the Gaggia Classic Pro will win, hands down. At 500, I think buyers would rethink buying something with less value, lower build quality, but has more features at a higher price point. The only strength it has other than automatic milk froth, is that it's lighter and smaller than the Gaggia.

there are definitely problems with the Bambino. i have had 2 samples from the Bay store in Montreal. Both machines had the same 2 problems I mentioned above. there*s actually a 3rd issue as well. my kitchen lights start to flicker when pre-infusing stops and 9 bar brewing starts......
@LifestyleLab_2 жыл бұрын
Lights flickering is an issue with your particular kitchen wiring load handling, not the machine...

Your comments on the steaming make no sense. The bambino you can stop and start whenever you want. Just like the Dedica
@LifestyleLab_2 жыл бұрын
Once you stop steaming on the Bambino, the machine starts cooling back down to brewing temperature. If you want to restart the steam after a couple minutes, you will have to re-warm up to steaming temp. On the Dedica, you can keep the machine at steaming temperature without the steam running.

@@LifestyleLab_As the Bambino only takes 3 Seconds to reheat the steam wand, I find this an inconsequential difference.

All these comments make me want to buy a nespresso machine. I had one that just broke and want a simple espresso machine to drink a quick macchiato. (Not a starbucks macchiato, the Italian kind.)
@LifestyleLab_2 жыл бұрын
If you want a true macchiato, you should buy a true espresso machine not Nespresso. Not that there is anything wrong with buying Nespresso if that’s what suits your budget and taste, but you can do much better :)

two problems with the Bambino. It *s almost impossible to turn off. when holding the 2 buttons to turn off, it will purge another single shot. it has taken upto 4 extra purges before it turns off !!!! also, no matter how perfect you level, tamp, dose or distribute, only the left portafilter spout will produce coffee.
@LifestyleLab_2 жыл бұрын
Both of these are sinply not true... please do not misinform. Try pressing the water button before the single shot when powering off so that a shot is not accidentally started. If espresso is not exiting one of the spouts, it is likely clogged. As you can see in the several videos of shots being pulled.

Sounds like maybe you pushed the espresso button before the water button. If both are pushed at the same time, it will turn off.

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap!! Another failed attempt to make a small and affordable espresso machine. You'll need to hold the machine down when putting the portafiller for the not to flips on the counter. Either provide a better attachment to the kitchen countertop (like smoothie makers) or make a heavier appliance at the base.
