What’s the timing of your shot. I know the Breville has a bit of “pre infusion” so does your extraction time start at the push of the button, or once coffee starts to hit your cup?
@HomeBaristaCorner

The dial-in video is 32secs including pre-infusion. Standard recipe is usually close to 30secs.

Could you tell the difference in taste between using the DF64 and the built in grinder that comes with the Pro? Is it a difference you could pick out repeatedly in a blind taste test?? Did the change in portafilter basket create a change in taste of a similar magnitude??

If you have been an espresso drinker for long, surely you will know the big difference with a conical burr (Breville) and a flat burr grinder (DF64). Also the secret for a great tasting espresso is not really in the espresso machine, it's in the grinder and the quality of your freshly roasted beans. I'm not really an expert in tasting but I already knew that a quality grind and the quality of extraction (using the precision basket) will give me a quality tasting espresso. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Consider that some folks in ‘competitive’ coffee (what?) are moving back toward baskets that can help induce a bit of pressure, that can resist flow somewhat to help ensure all grinds get saturated/extracted. The basket provided with your Breville already does that!

@@bluemystic7501 my experience with Breville stock and IMS baskets is different using a Breville machine. It is not the same. With IMS basket, you need to grind finer. This means more coffee grounds surface are expose resulting to more and better extraction.

When you grinded finer to get the shot in 32 seconds, how did the shot taste compared to when it extracted in 21 seconds? was it more sour or less sour?
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner 8 ай бұрын
Standard extraction time is between 25 to 30secs. Ideally closer to 30secs which is usually common recipe in a cafe. Less than 25, sour and weak. More than 35secs you will find it too bitter. Extraction time starts from pressing the button or when the coffee puck start to sature with hot water (really depends on what machine, may varies).

I have an offbrand precision filter basket and struggling a bit. I am using 18g, though it yield 36g around 30 seconds, the shot is a bit sour and quite drippy during extraction. wondering if I should increase the dose or grind finer.
@HomeBaristaCorner
@HomeBaristaCorner Жыл бұрын
If sour, increase the brewimg temperature. If still sour, it is the beans. Avoid those with berry or fruity notes/desc. Look for a darker roast beans or with for nutty, choco notes. And freshly rosted beans.

Have you got any comparisons of what the original portafilter would have extracted. Or is that because you can see how it extracts you are able to adjust it better.
