I recently bought this sandwich maker, and now make delicious crispy toasted sandwiches almost every day (that might wear off after my initial euphoria dies down ;-) I love how the edges and the centre of the sandwich are sealed, so you get a really neat result. The sandwich maker looks really stylish, and much sturdier than other ones we've had in the past, so I hope it will last. It also heats up quickly and to a temperature high enough to make the bread crisp (some aren't hot enough, and the bread remains soggy). Having removable plates is very practical, but nothing sticks anyway, thanks to the non-stick material. I have now ordered the matching waffle plates, so look forward to trying those out soon.

Update: I ordered the waffle plates to go with this toaster, and so far am not so thrilled with them. They have a black (Teflon??) coating, which isn't as easy to clean as the DuraCeramic coating. My first attempt was to make potato waffles - perhaps not such a good idea, because they split in the middle when I opened up the toaster, and it was an awful job getting them out of the deep ridges. When cleaning the plates afterwards, a chunk of the black coating came off in one corner, so I hope the rest isn't going to follow suit! At almost 17 pounds they were not exactly cheap, so I was expecting good, long-lasting quality.

Unfortunately Christine passed away from teflon poisioning. But don’t worry.

Well you got that wrong, didn't you? Because I'm still alive and kicking 😅 Perhaps that's perhaps because the Breville sandwich plates are ceramic-coated, not Teflon-coated. I think the waffle plates might be Teflon-coated, but since I've only used those about 6 to 8 times in four years I can't see them killing me off any time soon.

Update on the update: I wonder whether you had a similar experience, since you asked this specific question. After almost 4 years of frequent but not daily use the bread suddenly started sticking to the plates as if it had been glued on, and therefore can no longer be used. I must say that was rather disappointing for such an expensive sandwich-maker.
