Excellent! I have ordered a single grinder (Kafatek MC6), but am considering the Fused Line kit. Nicely done. In retrospect, if two years ago I knew what I have learned over the past month from KZbin, I would have purchased a Breville dual boiler with no grinder.

The way that I did it was with a single dosing hopper quite similar to yours but with the tamp fan removed. I used a bottomless portafilter without a basket but instead put a grind cup into that portafilter so that the grinds were collected inside of it. I was then able to transfer the grinds cleanly into my other pre-heated portafilter and do my puck prep. It was by far the most consistent way to pull shots on the Oracle Touch with about 0.2g of retention. But I found a quite better way to pull consistent shots: I sold the machine which was actually an appliance and got myself a real machine, handmade in Italy. 🤗 After all the struggle I had with my Oracle Touch, I wouldn’t recommend to follow that path and instead get a proper machine.

Thank you very much for providing another single dosing method! I will try your way this weekend. I have a few catch cups I could experiment with. I've had my share of frustration with this machine as well, but it still serves a purpose for us. But I did buy another machine as well. The next video should be on my new setup / new machine. What machine did you get? What kind of grinder are you using?

@@CoffeeWiser The grind cup that I had used fitted perfectly inside the bottomless portafilter instead of a basket while there was enough space on top to be able to lock them together under the grinder. But you could also grind through the open portafilter into any container underneath it to collect the grinds… Regarding your questions, my new machine is a Rancilio Silvia Pro X, with the pressure lowered to 7 bar and some slight modifications. Combined with a Niche Zero grinder. I am also using the Weber Workshops Unibasket and I really enjoy being able to pull very good shots from lighter roasts. I wasn’t able to do that with the Oracle Touch, but to be fair there were some good shots from darker medium roasts that required a more traditional way of extraction. ;)

Would either of you be kind enough to recommend a catch cup that fits well into a bottomless portafilter? Would any 58mm cup work?
@3ede467
@3ede467 Жыл бұрын
@@keeferbit The catch cup that I had used was manufactured by Kaffeemacher:innen from Switzerland and/or Germany. I am not sure whether they ship internationally but you could search for "Kaffeemacher Messbecher" to see its form factor. I just put the catch cup into the bottomless portafilter from the top so it hung inside, and then locked both together under the coffee grinder. I do have some pictures how I used it, but I have no idea how to share them here, as KZbin removes comments that include URLs…

I bought the bellows with the extra bits that cover as many nooks and crannies to minimise retention and I've been quite pleased getting zero or near zero retention on the SGP. For me the amount of grounds and beans stuck outside of the burrs was unacceptable.

Another wonderful video! Clear and informative. I’m wondering do you have two bellows? One black color and the other silver color to match more with Oracle’s stainless color.

Hi Helen! Thank you very much for watching and commenting :) I don't know if the vendor has the bellows in grey, but that is a great suggestion! I have the link for this item in the video description if you want to check with the Etsy store owner. If he doesn't have silver/grey, they should really look into adding that option. I would get it in grey as well.

Great video, thank you. I own the original, non-touch version of the Oracle. When I attempt single-dosing, the grinder keeps running but the tamper doesn't activate. Is there a method to initiate the tampering process after the grinding is finished grinding the dose amount? Would using the bellow exert sufficient force to start the machine's tamping function?
@danielpepper5728
@danielpepper5728 11 ай бұрын
I had the same problem. Only solution was to increase the dose of beans. I think the auto tamper initiation is based on the volume in the portafilter? See my post above from today re: a dosing funnel for the 58 mm Breville portafilter. One hack is to use a bottomless portafilter, remove the basket, remove the auto tamper, and collect the grounds below the portafilter.

Thanks for the informative videos. Have you tried any alternative shower screens or precision filter baskets with the Oracle Touch such as those from IMS, VST, Pesdao..etc?
@CoffeeWiser
@CoffeeWiser Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, and great questions! I considered switching the shower screen, and I figured I would wait until the spacer inside the shower screen breaks (they crack after a while). I haven't checked in over six months, so I will see. When it's time to switch, I'll make a video about it. I have tried many different baskets. Right now I am using an Espresso Parts basket. It's very inexpensive and it's very forgiving. I have IMS and VST baskets, but I don't like them as much as the EP baskets. Of note, I noticed that my dose changes, sometimes significantly, with different baskets. That makes sense because the tamp fan doses on pressure (or resistance), so if the volume of the basket is different, the tamp fan will stop at a different point than with the original basket. Each time I change baskets, I have to recalibrate the tamp fan to get 20g. I decided not to swap baskets anymore to avoid any issues with my tamp fan. I hope this helps.

Just got my Oracle Touch yesterday and finding it kind of difficult finding the right settings for my beans (medium roast). Got a 1:2 ratio with 20g (adjusted tamper) with my grinder set to 15. Started pouring at 9s (is this too late?). Not sure what I'm looking for exactly in the taste as I have no point of reference. Setting it to less than 15 resulted in overextraction and extreme bitterness so I guess that's something. With the grinder set to 17 the flow was just too much and I got 50ml of espresso in 20s. So I assume 15 is the right setting for this type of coffee for my machine. Haven't seen a video about the taste - what are you looking for when tasting the espresso other than "too bland"/"too bitter"?
@danielpepper5728
@danielpepper5728 Жыл бұрын
The grind setting number is arbitrary. Adjust it to achieve your goal. We have two Oracle Touch (vacation home.). One is at about 13, the other at 21. Both adjusted to grind 18 gms of beans and produce 38 gm espresso in about 30 secs. Agree with everyone that the results are very variable, however. I look forward to using a stand alone grinder, or maybe trying the Fused Line.

I have the same problem. and I don't understand why they talk about SINGLE SHOT because a single basket shot is about 9 gr and a double shot is 18 grams, in Italy 14, so...9 s, is ok as manually say, but the coffee is bitter, in a video for SAGE, show starts a 4s. In a single shot at 21 sizes, I can get 24 grams of coffee in 13 seconds,...really I don't understand that machine. is very expensive...and not accurate.

@CoffeeWiser

It definitely has consistency issues. I have made many videos about it. But this device makes things more tolerable if you want a fair amount of automation in the brewing process. If willing to do the work manually, and willing to buy an external grinder, another machine would be better.
@simonwallace699
@simonwallace699 Жыл бұрын
If you really must do everything manually, you're better off going with the Breville Barista Pro or Barista Touch instead. I just can't see the point of having a semi automatic machine if you're doing everything manually anyway. It's a waste of money and bench space.
