I happen to randomly meet Tasty a few times between a Homebrew Con and one or two breweries visiting an old friend in the Bay Area. He was such a nice fellow. Obviously very smart, but quite humble too. I think the idea of the MoreBeer message is fantastic.

Just coming back to watch this video again. Just tried first sample from the keg of my batch of Janet’s Brown that I brewed on Big Brew Day. This one is more Brown IPA than Brown Ale, but a dangerously tasty brew. Cheers in the beyond to Janet and Tasty McDole!

Agreed. It is a great beer but its a West Coast influenced Imperial American Brown if not a Brown IPA. Still a fun and Tasty beer. Cheers! -Mike

Cheers to you guys for paying proper tribute to an amazing man. Can’t imagine there’s many in the brewing community that haven’t heard the name, and the voice of, Tasty McDole. Seeing as how I love a good brown, I’ll definitely be brewing this up.

Well done guys and a nice tribute. Just tapped my keg tonight after brewing this a few weeks ago. Outstanding brew and Cheers to Janet & Mike! Mine pretty much tastes just like John describes here so I didn't screw it up much. I was surprised how much chocolate character this beer has.

It took me a while but I did eventually get around to brewing a JBA, which I’m sampling right now. My recipe is a little different to the one you’ve brewed here, but it’s evolved since it was originally (?) published in Brewing Classic Styles (maybe it was published prior to that but that book was the first source for me) I saw the caveat about it being out of style, then I noticed there’s a Russian River version which they’re calling a Brown IPA Anyway, I’ve wound up making a beer which I’ve pointed at the Brown IPA style, dry hopped with centennial, Cascade and Citra. I did the mash hop too, which is a first for me. No idea if that really contributed anything. I used 2 packs of US-05 I’ve bottle conditioned it, and it’s now 4 weeks in the bottle. I’d say there’s a good chance it will continue to improve in the bottle but it’s pretty good already. I’ve entered it in state competition to be judged next week, both in ‘American Brown’ and ‘Brown IPA’ styles. Surely it’s too much hop and alcohol for American Brown but we’ll see. Thanks for the inspiration. I think it’s one of the tastiest beers I’ve brewed.

Update: my beer was awarded Silver and 3rd place in both Brown Ale and Specialty IPA categories. Quite happy with that for a first time with the recipe and 4 weeks bottle-conditioned. It’s qualified to enter the National competition, so I think I’ll follow through with that.
