Don O, I've been brewing 13 years and never would have dreamed that I would one day be brewing primarily pilsner and lagers. Cheers!

I wonder how many of us are in a similar boat. I still make stronger and hoppier (and darker/roastier) beers, but man I love the light ones too.

Banger of a beer. This has been on my brew list for a while, thanks for the inspiration. I think this will be a people pleaser

This absolutely is a people pleaser. I would think that even the lightest beer drinker could enjoy a glass of it. Good luck with the beer.

Nice video. Like you said, I’d never expect to make a light beer like that and good point about relationship to a cold IPA. I haven’t seen T rice in nz, might need to use rice syrup when the day comes. Robert

Rice syrup might be a workable substitute to try and make a beer like this. Not sure. If I was to make a bigger, hoppier version of this I suppose it would essentially be a Cold IPA. Maybe it would depend on the percentage of rice, but that would also be nitpicking. Ha. Cheers.

that looks awesome!

We have a rice lager @Finaldraftbrewing. It started as a home brew recipe and when I became the head brewer I brought it with me. 60% Pilsner and 40% flaked rice.

Sounds like the exact same ratio. Does it sell pretty well?

That looks tasty. I've brewed for about 12 years. Never thought I'd think about doing a rice lager for a brew. What dry yeast would you recommend? I've thought about K-97, but have some W34/70 on hand. On another note, is it just me or does your fermenter look like it (at 10:53) has a flat spot in the side from the cold crash?
@donosborn3 ай бұрын
Great catch. That was part of a longer segment that I was going to cut out entirely but left the end of the "ghetto cold crash" method in there. I pointed out that it looked like when going from 69 to 39 that it collapsed the fermenter a little. As for the yeast question, I have not used dried lager yeast. If there is one that has worked for you, go for it. You could probably even make a beer like this with an ale yeast but I suspect it would not quite be the same. Cheers.

Congratulations Don! Now....where do I sign up for personal yeast shipments from Imperial?😉

I know right? I guess you have to know a guy who knows a guy. It was very nice of them to do that. Hopefully the little shout out is sufficient thanks.

Good stuff, I've been thinking about trying my hand at something like this. Do you think the yeast contributed much to this beer, if so what off the shelve yeast do you think would be ninth range for something like this?
@donosborn3 ай бұрын
Any lager yeast that you like should do the trick. Some might have more of their own character than others. I'd get more of a clean, neutral one. Cheers.
