This got me so nostalgic. My dad was what people would unironically call a "cool dad". Metal head guitar player, raced RC cars, played video games like silent hill and shit. This was a couple years ago, not in the 90s, but I had and learned on a plastic Duncan Butterfly. Then when I decided to get more serious about it I got a N12 and after that a Gentry Stein Shutter. The ones termed "unresponsive" are the ones you can do all the super flashy string tricks with because they don't come back until you cast some yoyo magic on them. It's been awhile since I've practiced so I'm probably pretty rusty at it, but at one point I practiced hours a day and learned a lot of tricks. I used to even do it in public on occasion and people would come up and talk to me about it and watch. Nowadays I'm sometimes embarrassed to admit that one of my hobbies was yoyo-ing.
