I live in Kentucky. I won't buy bottles with huge markups. I have a couple of stores where I can buy stuff at MSRP. I've gotten so turned off from the price gouging that I not only will I not buy anything from the stores doing it, I just will never even go back in a store that does it. So go ahead and mark your bottles up. You'll get a nice payday if you can sell it. You're not going to get a dime of my money. I spend a lot of money on whiskey. While you're waiting for that huge payday, you're going to miss out on that smaller weekly payday. I have friends who feel the same way. It's not just me. Occasionally, I will go into one of the liquor stores I have forsaken and buy a bottle. But only if it's a convenience thing where I'm close or going right by the store and I want to get something to try. On my weekly round hunting, I never stop.

@daverandolph1245 unfortunately if you don't know where the 3 stores are in the state that won't try to screw you, you'll overpay for any allocated bottle in Kentucky.

They’d rather hold onto a bottle for a year so they can make 200$ per bottle once or twice a year rather then sell a case in a week and make the 200… not sure why that is but I have a few shops around me and they just stock pile it and mark it up 2x only to do a “bargain” sale at the end of the year to actually sell everything wick of course is treated like a lottery in some states with lines out the door… and it’s still above msrp…
@bloodCount88955 ай бұрын
Amen. I do the same. My two local grocery chains will get bottles and sell them for either msrp or just $2-10 over. It takes them a while to get them and they randomly put them out with no heads up or social media. Luckily I live down the street from one. I just got weller 12 for $49.95, weller SR $30.95, buffalo trace for $27.95 (in IL, it's somewhat "rare"), 1792 Aged 12 $45.95, 1792 BIB $40.95, 1792 Sweet Wheat $42.95, and Magnus Cigar Blend $159.95. Just have to be patient and a bit luckily bc the bottles do go fast. The other day, the store put out 6 bottles of 1792 sweet wheat. I bought the first bottle at 9am. I went back 4pm after work and all gone.
@TheNewRevolution5 ай бұрын
@bloodCount8895 I'm lucky because the manager at my main store will actually put bottles in the back for me. He knows I'm going to be there at least once a week, and I buy whatever he puts back. So he's never stuck with it. Even if it's not my favorite bottle, I can always trade it. Recently, he put back a Weller Antique 107 store pick for me. It was $64. Even as a store pick, it was about half the price of other stores. I've got some serious sweet bottles from the store. I tell him to never refuse anything. I'll take whatever he's got. Even if it's a crazy $1000 bottle as long as it's MSRP.

Hopefully you see this comment just to help inform you a bit buddy. Around 8 ish months ago peerless switched distributors which most brands don’t do so the first distributor had to get rid of the rest of their inventory before they switched so they sold it at ridiculously cheap prices wholesale to stores. One store near me had peerless small batch for 39.99 or 34.99 I can’t remember but dirt cheap basically. but the actual cost to my store to bring in the small batch right now I believe was around 60 so msrp around 74.99 but just to let you know why it might seem weird that some stores have great prices and some don’t. Some took advantage of the wholesale price and are too greedy to give their customers good prices but some stores didn’t get the chance to take advantage of the deal. Cheers
