There is No Living Jazz or otherwise Living Drummer Today who can Touch This Man. He's Fucking Amazing.

Marcus Miller does such a good job of keeping the bass simple so the soloists and drums can shine.

Brian Blade's different approach to the drum part on this iconic piece improves it. He is such a treasure.

I don't think you'll find too many drummers who are completely in the "zone" and spontaneously feeding off the whirlwind of sound around them and making it look so effortless! This is completely amazing playing!

one drummer i saw on this stage about a month ago that reminds me of what youre saying is Bill Stewart. amazing dynamics just like Blade, in the zone always. drums sounded immaculate

Thank's Brian! Simply great! If every drummer (musician) would play with your musicality, your intensity & your joy, the ''today's music would be a lot better & spiritual! May the Lord bless you all on this gig! Chick is probably very happy!

Vinne col as brilliant and revered as he is , Brian blade brought a lot more to the 5 piece band when he replaced him. He doesn’t do flash for flash sake or drum chops , a different sensibility. (And I love Vinnie ) , but I saw the difference there and here. Maybe vinnes problem if he has one ,lol is he has to much chops , ridiculous virtuosity etc, I’ll be slaughtered for saying this. Anyway I love Brian blade , he brings great drama and energy to all the music he plays on, in a very natural organic way , him and Marcus Gilmore are my guys.

He's on the Cellar Door recordings and I believe that one bootleg series installment that came out a few years ago... the Fillmore one, I think.
@woodygould5 жыл бұрын
@@samferguson9171 There's a gang of "Directions" versions with Jack D. ; they start with the Dave/Chick/Wayne band, 1968 or 69; continue through the Isle of Wight and Fillmore live sets (swap out Wayne, swap in Steve Grossman and then Gary Bartz) and carry on through the semi-live "Live-Evil/Cellar Door" sessions (swap out Chick and Dave for Keith and Michael Henderson).

they're basically playing a version of miles davis' "directions"
@pjustusxi6 жыл бұрын
Miles played it (a Zawinul tune) with all his groups from 1968-71. Two studio versions and plenty of live cuts were recorded. Weather Report also did it.
@marvinkmooneyoz6 жыл бұрын
@@Quantumlogik I think Chick is the Rhodes player on a live album of the Miles band at the time, DeJohnette, Holland, I forget who on sax, probably Grossman, unless its still Shorter, he might have been the hold out at that point

It’s fucked up that he was still making money off Miles Davis’ name, 20 years after his death. Some are doing it even now.
@MeAndTheBoys_ Жыл бұрын
I can only imagine it, trying to solo when the drummer is constantly switching all over the place. As good as a drummer this guy is, i have no idea for who he is playing for here. It's almost like he is trying to mimic someone else, while overplaying. To me, the heart of improvisation is just sometimes locking things down, not open up every time, all the time. As a drummer myself, this is frustrating to listen to. The drummer is literally chocking out the rest of the band, no one else has room to do anything. The drummer is not playing for the music, but for the audience. Miles would've kicked his ass after this crap.

I see Your point but am not sure You are picking up what is happening here. He is Different than Jack and He is Adding a Ton of Energy to this. I would have played less bc I Am Not Brian Blade but I Loved this.
