I would not wish alcoholism on anybody, and it far to simplistic to say it is a self-imposed situation, but even though Brian is shaking, and stuttering occasionally due to the effects of his condition, he makes far more sense than these two 'cheap laugh' morons. Who are they? Will anyone outside their immediate circle ever care about them? Like many a 14 year old, I wanted to play electric guitar, and Sweet, Slade, T-Rex, The Beatles, were my heroes. I got that electric guitar and finally managed to pound out the 'Turn-It-Down' main riff, but I couldn't sing/shout the lyrics the way Connolly could. That was over 42 years ago, but Sweet still make the hairs on the back of my neck go up when I hear them. Especially their B sides. I have already forgotten the two morons on this clip though. RIP Brian and Mick. It was a blast!

Brian got into alcohol primarily after a vicious assault where his vocal chords were badly injured,he didn't get the help to cope as a victim of crime that he needed and struggled on finding solice in alcohol. He was brilliant but was so hampered in his prime and never fully recovered, I think he probably would have continued at the top much longer otherwise
@sebastian01075 ай бұрын
That Pub/vocal incident did of course hamper his ability to perform and record for 4 vital months, so much is true. But his voice recovered fully from that. Just listen to The Lies in your Eyes, Love is like oxygen or his first solo-work; he sounded just fine then; awesome range! What caused him to become a heavy drinker? We still don't know for sure. In interviews he, himself, said that the tensions, within the band, about the musical direction from 1976 onwards wore him out. not in the least vocally, because the band wrote heavy metal songs in a key (on purpose) he could not deliver. Also remember he was a very heavy smoker. The tensions combined with the US touring and a body that couldn't cope with alcohol. His heart-attacks were an accident waiting to happen.

Seeing Brian like this, he was just to be hugged, to be held tightly: first the problems with alcohol, then the serious heart condition, and a neurological disease to make his life an ordeal. And he was always there, bearing illness, mockery, compassion...It's called dignity, it's called humility, it's called courage. Singing and carrying a cross, smiling and suffering, pretending not to hear and passing over meanness and malice, is an exercise few people are allowed to do: he did it, demonstrating an inner strength in comparison with which what had been an exceptional physical beauty pales into nothingness... This man deserves all my affection and respect...❤

Ok, so maybe the interviewer didn't flat out insult him, but he absolutely should've treated Brian with a lot more respect than he did. I mean really, who did that dude think he was?? He only wishes he got the attention Brian did with the band.....but Brian still handled it with much class 🙂 A really great interview of his though, is where he performed on UK Living about a year or so before he died. And the woman interviewing him was so sweet, even going on to mention his "heart-throb" status, even though he was no longer a young guy. So wonderful she was still clapping and cheering him as he approached her for the interview. Even with the problems he overcame, she still cared about what he had to say and treated him like the star he was. 😁

Weird fact: He was abandoned in a hospital as a child and the family that adopted him and the same ones that the guy who plays Detective Taggart in the show Taggart is from. Both men were mates and used to joke that they probably had the same dad (Brian did not know who his father was). He also replaced Ian Gillan from Deep Purple in a Gospel band in the 60s haha! Such a fascinating character, taken before his time and tragic. He should deffo get his own biopic. It would be tragic and inspiring. Plus we would all get to hear The Sweet, who are bangin'!
