Alan - so glad to see you've developed such a great relationship with a bike shop. I remember a while back you were saying how you didn't really have an LBS relationship and now look at you! Keep up the stoke bro!

You missed out on the best riding. dark Hollow, Blow Hard, and Bunker Creek. The park is good but the "Backcountry" trails are what really makes Brianhead a place to visit each year.
@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daniel! Dark Hollow is on the list but we didn't have a ton of time and I wanted to save shuttle runs for when the park is closed. Thanks for the heads up on the other trails!

That place is definitely tough & takes no prisoners. Glad you were able to overcome its challenges & give yourself the opportunity to have a good time riding new terrain. Definitely need to get back out there next season & ride the Boneyard down by Cedar City. 🤙🏼

Thanks Tony! The stoke once we broke through was pretty surreal. I didn't ride any of the double blacks on day 2 (maybe because I knew we'd be riding Summit soon). But I do wanna go back and explore some more trails out there. Thanks for the heads up. See you at Summit!

Alan your videos on Snow Summit have made me actually try out a bike park. It helps that it’s the closest one to me (about 4 hr drive) but I got to say I had a blast when I went. I’m thinking about going this Saturday since I’ll need to be in LA area anyways. I mention this because you’re an inspiration and I appreciate your videos.

Hey Alan, next time you're in Brian head go to Georges bike shop. He'll shuttle you to the top of the mountain and you can ride Dark Hollow and Blow Hard. Best trails up there.

Hi Ken! Thanks for the suggestion. I keep hearing good things about those two trails. I will definitely take advantage of that shuttle the next time I'm there.

Nice ride. Next time u go on a road trip, you might wanna try checking out Mammoth Mountain. It's a bit closer than Brian Head and there are way more trails! You'd be able to make a good few videos from riding there just for a couple of trails

We just did two days at Brianhead and it was epic…however not because of the bike park. We did a day at the park but I found the shuttle trails to be much, much better… which we did the day before the bike park. We did a trail called Dark Hallow that may have been the best trail I’ve ever ridden. If you’re ever in the area do a day of the shuttle trails which are not part of the bike park and you won’t be disappointed.

I am a Ski Patroller at BH in the winter and ride my bike there occasionally in the summer. The trails can be gnarly at the park, very very rocky, fun but rocky. I like the nature trails and Southview Trail System in Cedar City a lot as well. Any trip to BH should include a few natural rides.
@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions! I definitely plan to come back to Brian Head. I learned to love the park, and I want to ride some of those natural trails. I've heard good things.

You may agree or disagree with this. But i believe we set our bikes up for when we nail it. So when we are off pace or learning a new trail, they always feel harsh. Kind of the same way you go for a softer setup when you ride slower. Either way thanks for showing us 👌👍
@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
Yo! You absolutely nailed it. 💥 My bike is set up for high speeds at Snow Summit, so riding more tentatively and on the brakes more made everything feel harsh. I actually softened up my suspension on day 1 (stuff that got lost due to the card failure), but it ended up making it worse. The one change I did find that helped was upping tire pressures by 2psi. But other than that, as you say, once we started going faster, everything felt better. That's the tricky part about editing vids. How much is it a technique video and how much is it just a story about learning to have fun? :)
@mphmtb2 жыл бұрын
@@mtb_alan the only setting i change now for a quick fix is slow rebound. A bit extra when you ride tentatively gives a bit more confidence. Then release it as you speed up. Also good for the winter months. 👍

Rode BH in July. It reminded me of Mammoth, in the 90's, when suspension was a luxury. But for a place, where the lift tickets are under $40, you really can't complain.

Kinda reminds me of Silver Mountain in Idaho for the sheer chunkiness, but Silver mountain is more embedded rocks and roots than loose babyheads. I'm under the impression that Snow Summit is super smooth except for MM and 10 Ply of course.
@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
Good to know. Brian Head wasn't baby heads. It was more shaley. And there was a lot of shaley rock embedded in the dirt almost irregular pavers...but not smooth. LOL. Snow Summit flow trails are indeed pretty dang smoothed comparatively. And actually, on 10 Ply and Miracle Mile, everything between the chunk is pretty smooth. That's what took a bit of getting used to at Brian Head, the constant chatter. But once we were up to speed, it "smoothed" out.
@bonntec2 жыл бұрын
Great video from from BH. I had only snowboard there once, never bike. Now have kind of an idea what trails look like overthere. Btw how many trails? Mostly very rocky right?
@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! There are 4 or 5 main trails that have upper and lower halves and the system is set up so that you can mix and match trails, e.g. start with Glitter (blue) and split off onto Wildflower (double black), etc. And yeah, the trails are pretty rocky....there's a lot of shale there. Even the flow trails are pretty bumpy. Something I meant to say in the vid was that it helped to add a couple psi to my tires.

I live in Las Vegas and my two in between parks are Snow Summit and Brian Head. Every time we go to Summit and then hit Brian Head, its such a let down cause Summit is on another level. I always have to do several runs at BH before I finally start to have fun. But when we want some RAD DAY fun its always gonna be Snow Summit. BH has the potential just not there yet.
