Hey Alan thanks for the video and sharing your trip. Sorry it didn’t turn out quite the way you wanted, but glad you all were ok and made it thru the storm. 😎

I met you Saturday evening around 5-ish. I was the guy with the Druid. Talked with you and Heather. Planned to ride with you Sunday morning :(. We survived the storm and stayed until Tuesday night (no power too:P). Was my first time in Bentonville so I had to ride whatever trails I could find....which was the skills park, All American jumpline and at the Castle, Uwabami and Wildfire. All else was destroyed. Nice to meet you and hope to meet you again! With no tornadoes lol

Good meeting you too. Glad you came through the storm unharmed.

I went to skypark with my buddy's who are xc racers and omg we did 30 miles and my legs are done.
@mtb_alan13 сағат бұрын
Nice! It's so easy to do a ton of miles there.
@just697914 сағат бұрын
So those pedals actually _do_ have a marking on them. It's not a printed or etched "L" & "R", but there is a line on the left pedal, going around that portion of the spindle between the pedal body and the threads, while the right pedal is smooth in that spot. Line for Left, it's actually super common. A helpful tip to go along with another helpful tip!
@mtb_alan13 сағат бұрын
Nice. That's good to know. The nice thing about looking at the threads is that it's always gonna be the same on every pedal.

I manage to crash even without a jump:( Fortunately nothing is broken but my back and neck need time to heal before riding again. It’s my second crash, and I’m a woman in my 40’s, new to the soprt. Loosing my confidence, but I don’t want to give up. Does anyone have advice on how to rebuild?
@mtb_alan2 күн бұрын
First off, HELL YEAH! Coming into this sport later in life is a challenge. I was in my mid 40s when I started. Secondly, double HELL YEAH! The fact that you have slammed a couple times and still want to do it is a proper sign. My advice is to be OK with taking it slow and progressing incrementally. And I highly recommend getting some coaching. I actually just had another coaching session last weekend. REI has good MTB courses. There may also be clinics in your area. Some are also women-specific clinics. And if you have a good local bike shop (especially if they concentrate on MTB) they might have resources to help. I hope this helps! What area are you in?
@mtb_alan2 күн бұрын
Specifically on the rebuilding, I find it helpful to be kind to myself and to stay in my comfort zone for a little while. Keep it fun. And once I am feeling good, I start working on building skills and strength. Coaching and drills for the skills. Training for the strength…like some sort of weight or resistance training. This is also what my wife does.

Going to whistler this weekend and kinda nervous about getting worn out on the first lap lol. Any tips?
@mtb_alan7 күн бұрын
Stoked for you! I would say start training a few months in advance. 😆 But since you don't have that kind of time, my advice on the trail would be to try and not drag your brakes. Let it roll and be really intentional about your braking. This will save your hands a ton. Granted, this might be a learning process if you're a brake dragger, but Whistler is a great place to learn! In general, stop regularly and rest for a minute. Letting your body recover regularly does a lot to keeping your energy up. Obviously, fuel well. Eat healthy leading up the to the trip. Be hydrated before you arrive. Energy levels will drop if you're dried up. And it's hard to get hydrated once you're in it. So start hydrated and stay hydrated. I had a full bottle of water each lap. And in my hotel, I kept sugar-free bubbly water in the fridge (Bubbly or La Croix kind of drinks) and would down a few of those each evening. Also, be good to your body in the evenings. It's easy to eat greasy and drink more beers than usual, but you pay for it on the trail. Hope that helps!
