if you watched his back story, the song was perfect. he was bullied growing up and even at one point thought he was weird and didn't belong. Heartbreaking that a child would think that and that anyone made him feel that way

I'll never forget the first time I watched this performance. Still have never heard complete silence like that at the end of a song on that show. Hauntingly beautiful.

He came in second. I know, bummer. His first audition song was Somebody To Love by Queen, with only a light piano accompaniment. It's amazing too. Notice the silence? No whooping and noise during, and dead silence for four full beats at the end. THAT NEVER HAPPENS ON THIS SHOW. It's always a very noisy audience. When he's done you feel like you should be having a smoke in the dark.

Simon's comment after was that he'd made it a "performance" not just a song well done. He was right...the whole audience was rapt from the first note. You could have heard a pin drop, I think. Even just on the basis of this one song, he should have won, imo.

I believe he finished in 4th his original season and made it to the finale in Champions. He was on one of the more stacked seasons, but the judges thought he should've placed higher

Vincint Cannady did a great version of this song, Mimi and Josefin did, too! Grace VanderWaal won this season. She sung four of her originals during this competion! And she has a great voice! Now (2020) she is 16 years young! And she has made more music in the last years!

His studio version is not as vital (for lack of a better word) as the live performance Coming from me (a strong proponent of studio recordings) actually means something. There are few a cappella recordings that fall into that category, but this is one of them.

I dig the thought bubbles! Or whatever visual you ultimately go with. They tend to be especially helpful to viewers who are not native English speakers and sometimes have trouble understanding native speakers. They're great from the standpoint of offering additional perspective also.

I really loved your reaction to this! I understand the stunned silence, and think ur idea of the thought bubble was really smart! I believe he got 4th place. I would recommend Macklemore and Donna Missal's song 'Over It', but the KZbin greenroom sessions. Or Donna Missal's song "Keep Lying" Personally, I think you should do what feels right to you. If you need to pause and rewind because that's your vibe, then thats your vibe. Also, I dont know if I ever thanked you for the headphone recommendation.
