Track #6: Walking Distance. This was one of the first melodies written for the album, and represents one of the simplest sentiments of the album: the desire to return, to go back to simpler times, if only in your memory, if only for a moment. The lyric itself is really just a brief moment, but it's one I think we likely all share every once in a while.
'Lord, let me be...
I know I can't stay here
In this homesick dream
But every now and then
I'll wish and I'll wonder
If life will ever be so good again'
Much of my forthcoming album 'The Lonely Hour'' deals with this notion of nostalgia, both the usefulness and trappings of it. It's an album of internal struggle, the battle with self. And in the face of uncertainty, and turbulence, loss, we sometimes turn to the past (or at least a version of it) to find our internal compass and depart once again. You can visit, but you can't stay. And such is the painful beauty of it.
I hope you enjoy 'Walking Distance.' Much more to come :) - Brian
