One of the greatest. Love his metal references. Obituary Cause of Death is one of the greatest seminal albums in death metal.

Yeah, I always expect Brian to name drop metal bands (of all kinds) in interviews. Dude’s been doing it for a long time. He’s a straight up metal nerd! (A cool one) :)

I have had similar experiences, though I am just 6'4. My apartment complex is separated from a Kroger shopping center by a thin patch of woods. There is a trail connecting the two, which is frequently used by people who live in my complex. I cannot count the number of times I have unintentionally frightened women on that path. One case in particular, stands out. The trail is only big enough for one person (at least one my size; maybe two children); therefore, when I see a woman on the path, I step off into the leaves/brush and slightly bow with my hands waving her on (also in plain sight), signaling that I am leaving the path clear for her to pass. I usually say "After you ma'am/ladies". One lady, however, thought this was not me trying to be a gentleman, and thought it was creepy. She was walking with her young daughter, stopped dead in her tracks, put herself between me and her daughter, and stepped into the brush on the opposite side. She said in a threatening tone "No, you go first". I did so, and as I moved, she never broke a glaring stare at me, continued to move so that she was between her daughter and I, with her hand out on either side, as if she was going to swat away an attempt to grab her daughter. It does make you feel horrible, but I guess it is understandable, given that our unequal size difference means I could definitely pose a threat. The funny thing is that if I had bad intentions, nothing she did would have helped her in any way; I still could have done her and her daughter wrong. It isn't something that I usually think about, but being treated like a predator definitely brings it to mind. Lucky for her, I always try to be a gentleman, and tried my best to assure her that (though I could have been) I was not a threat to her or her child. I put myself in her shoes, which is why I say it is understandable, and tried not to take it personally, but I wonder how many women put themselves in my shoes (or Brian's) and consider what it is like to be treated like a monster who wants to do them harm, even as we try our best to demonstrate that is not our intention. He is right- it doesn't feel great for people to assume you are a predator based on size/looks (which we cannot help).
@crystalsunshine6 жыл бұрын
While your attempt to show yourself as nonthreatening is very gentlemanly and sweet, when you wonder if women put themselves in your shoes, consider this....some women have had their trust already broken in some way. By your sheer size, they're completely unable to put themselves into a strangers shoes. Her hands up and keeping space kind of IS her giving you that chance while also just trying to feel safe in a space that she can see she's already going to lose in if someone your size chooses to attack. It's kind of like how an abused dog feels threatened just by a look sometimes or will feel cornered, even though they're not really cornered.
@raafmaat6 жыл бұрын
ps, saying you are not a threat probably just makes it worse
@quantumperception6 жыл бұрын
+crystalsunshine I can accept the majority of your premise, except that women who have had their trust broken can no longer put themselves in your shoes. I too have had my trust broken, but that doesn't prevent me from putting myself in their shoes. If I can do it, so can women; saying otherwise seems kind of sexist against women, as if they are less capable. We all have hurts and betrayals, but we can all still try to empathize with others. That said, I accept the rest of your premise- size does matter in combat scenarios (reach, pounds per square inch pressure exerted, etc.). That is why, like I said, even though it didn't make me feel good to be treated that way, I tried not to take it personally, and see it from her point of view- she was just protecting her child from a potential threat.
@quantumperception6 жыл бұрын
+raafmaat I never made that mistake. I try to demonstrate that I am not a threat by my actions (keeping hands in plain sight, maintaining distance, etc.), but I wouldn't outright say it. I know that would only seem creepy. It actually reminds me of an Always Sunny episode, wherein Danny DeVito wants to assure parents that he won't "diddle" their kids, by writing a song about how it is wrong to do so. Another character said "there is no quicker way to make people think that you are going to diddle their kids. Lol.

I mean 6 feet, 4 inches. I'm not sure if you thought it was metric, but I usually tower over most people, including other guys. Not saying I am super tall, but the average height for a white male is 5'10, which means I am a half a foot taller than most men in the country. In most situations, I am looking forward above a person's scalp, and most men are looking forward at my chin, while most women are looking at my chest.
