That roll over you experienced with the blocker is 100% from how they attach the hand to the blocker board, they have a large gap between them at the side anchor points. I'll be ordering mine with the hand sewn much closer to the board. Been my biggest peeve with Brian's blockers over the years. Finally figured it out at the Hockey Shop while grabbing the Iconik demos.

Brad's a legend. I bought a St. Cyr optik 1 set from him with the flex core a few years ago. Loved them.

First off, shoutouts to Brad. He's a great dude when I've gotten to speak with him. I too am looking forward to potentially trying on some Iconik items and the other not-publicly-named stuff they have in the works. I've been in Brian's sets since the GN3TIK/Optik1 sequence of gear and wanted to chime in/corroborate. Pads: I think the direction and changes they have made to the Optik line since its inception are really neat, specifically with the strapping from Optik1->2->3. When I got to demo the 3s I really liked how the pads attached to the leg (I like a tighter fit). I do agree that the bend feels a bit too aggressive and would want an outer roll (despite it not doing too much). Every Brian's set I've ordered I have had them cover the boot with Primo, was never a fan of the water getting in the nylons down there. With the GNetik pad (moving into the Iconik), I am disappointed that (it appears) Brian's stayed with the same calf strapping system when moving from GNetik to Iconik. I think that's a main weakpoint of the line, or at least it's my least favorite part and I noticed most of the pros in the GNetik had the calf strapping either modified or supplemented with leather straps. Especially in comparison to the Optik line's strapping, which is one of my favorite on the market. I suppose if I were ordering I'd have to go with an Iconik pad customized to have the Optik3 straps and to have them make the boot area primo (because they took it all out of the boot area on this iteration). I'm really pleased that they've redone the face with harder foams to address rebound response (as well as offering a way to make it even stiffer, rad). Really not sure why the Primo would have felt so awful for you. I did notice it starts to wear over time and maybe it doesn't deal so great with temperature in shipping/storage? The two pads I've had it on, and the other pads I've tried it on, have slide with ease with it (always better than JenPro and at least marginally better than most Weave Only pads). Blockers: You're not alone in experiencing that rolling on the blocker. I've had it happen on my Optik1 and Optik2 blockers. I love the weight, balance, and cuff, but I'll get some really strange shots off the outer extremes of the blocker and it'll torque the whole unit on my hand. As such, I moved into using a GNETIKV blocker pretty much full time and greatly prefer. It's a heavier unit on all accounts with less wrist mobility (which looks fixed/addressed for the Iconik), but I get full stability on saves and its balance on the hand makes that weight increase barely noticeable, plus the way the sidewall is mounted makes it feel stiffer (I had Brad confirm it was the same foams, different mounting methods). In summary: I love the beveled design, finger attachment style, weight, mobility, and feel, but prefer making saves with the GNetik/Iconik blockers. Gloves: I still break out my Optik1 glove from time-to-time and it's a total crapshoot on whether or not my hand will like it on any given day. Some days the break feels buttery, other days I can't figure out what to do with my hand. The closure seal on the Optik gloves is perfect, but that's more a Brian's thing than a break thing since the GNetik gloves also seal completely. As such, I'm also a GNetik/Iconik glove dude (which I guess means I prefer 590s(?), but they're not a perfect analogue for the GNetik break, just the closest). Brian's does their break in a unique way in that it always feels like it closes more toward the fingers than in the palm of the hand, but maybe that's my INT palm using self having small hands experiencing that. My GNetikV glove is my favorite glove I've used to date, on even being compared to with my GNetikIV glove and a V10 Pro Carbon glove I got to demo. I do think there's something to be said that most of Brian's NHL guys are in the Optik glove with Allen, Hart, Vejmelka, Shesterkin, Dell, and Hellberg. Something must be speaking to them, but not for me. Anyway, thanks to anyone who read my block of text.

Spot on here! Love my Genetik2 glove, its a black hole for pucks. My Genetik 2 blocker sufferers from the large palm size and some curious placement of mesh material at the end of the thumb where one holds the stick which wore out withing a few months. Current pads are ProStock ZeroG's with sub zero boots and flat knees, and previous to that were Beast pads. Over the last few years I've been searching for replacements. I was really thinking Genetik pads but hated them on the ice and preferred the optik1's. I recently had a set of Optik3's for 7 games and loved them. One thing about the slim outer roll, on a cross crease play I got across and saw the puck hit the edge and bounce in on a 45 degree angle, not sure a large outer roll would have changed that but it was in my mind. These optik3's slide absolutely ridiculously. I'm now trying a set of Hyperlights and even though they fell really light the slide is nothing compared to the Brians. They actually stick to the ice during warmups and only slide once they've cooled down to ice temp and or there is a little snow on the ice. Rebounds aren't any hotter either. I have a couple more games to try these but so far I'm leaning towards the Optiks. I want to try the Iconiks but my local shop wont get demos until February. I feel if they are anything like the Genetiks I wont like em anyways.

If you compare your ccm axis 2 pads and gloves to these brian optik 3 pads and gloves , which pad do you think has the better five hole closure , better precurve , rebounds , better slide and feels more natural to you to use? For the glove wich one was easier to close out of the box, presented better , has better protection ? Do you prefer a 580 or a 600 ? Great video keep up the great work !!!

I’m not going to comment and compare brands. If you’ve watched any of my other videos, you’d know what gloves I prefer.

Vaughn I can understand. But the current line of CCM? Enjoy paying for that overpriced overseas-made garbage. CCM took a huge step back in terms of feel and quality when Lefebvre’s contract expired
