"Summertime Blues" is a song co-written and recorded by American rock and rockabilly artist Eddie Cochran. It was written by Cochran and his manager Jerry Capehart. Originally a single B-side, it was released in August 1958 and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 29, 1958, and number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. It has been covered by many artists, including being a number-one hit for country music artist Alan Jackson, and scoring notable hits in versions by Blue Cheer, The Who, and Brian Setzer, the last of whom recorded his version for the 1987 film La Bamba, in which he portrayed Cochran. Jimi Hendrix performed it in concert.

La Bamba is a 1987 American biographical film written and directed by Luis Valdez. The film follows the life and short-lived musical career of Mexican-American Chicano rock and roll star Ritchie Valens. The film stars Lou Diamond Phillips as Valens, Esai Morales, Rosanna DeSoto, Elizabeth Peña, Danielle von Zerneck and Joe Pantoliano. The film also covers the effect that Valens' career had on the lives of his half-brother Bob Morales, his girlfriend Donna Ludwig, and the rest of his family. The film is titled after a Mexican folk song of the same name, which Valens would later transform the song by turning it into a rock and roll rendition in 1958. In 2017, La Bamba was included in the annual selection of 25 motion pictures added to the National Film Registry of the US Library of Congress being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and recommended for preservation.

The best scene in a classic biopic! I love the whole movie - the acting, music, story arc and all. But when i was a kid and this movie came out on VHS, i would watch this scene over and over because the song is a banger and Brian Setzer performed it with such swagger and style. The issue with Brian Setzer is his voice, It's one of the best rockabilly voices of all times, I dabbled trough enough rockabilly theese past weeks now to get an idea. But Brian isn't just a raw voice there is so increadible much talent behind it. So I believe that he can take an original song and make it as good or even better than the original.

I love this. The story is he chose his Gretch because it was the same one Eddie Cochran played. There's an Australian Guitarist Chris Cheney (The Living End ) that chose the same guitar because Brian Setzer played it. I think that's kinda cool.
