It was Brian's father that's sped up the record so that Brian's voice would sound younger than it was even though he was still in his twenties.
@tomchristie31993 жыл бұрын
Murry suggested it but it was Brian's decision ultimately. I suspect he might have also felt the track was too slow at the recorded speed (they did this for several songs in order to improve the tempo/feel without having to go to the effort and expense of rerecording - Slip on Through was sped up, Aren't You Glad was slowed down)
@jcfiggy9 ай бұрын
@@tomchristie3199No wonder that keyboard on Aren’t You Glad sounds so unique! And the backing vocals during the chorus are a little off in my opinion because of that but idk 😅

It was a pretty standard part of the pop recording tool kit to speed things up (or sometimes down) at recording or playback to tighten, brighten and get a more engaging sound with a more precisely interlocking ryth section. It is somewhat of a lost trick, since it got much harder to do with digital. "When I'm sixty four" would be a famous example, it is sped up quite a bit, and once you hear the original tempo, you can not unhear how McCartney sounds like Donald Duck in the released version.
@paninovevo11622 жыл бұрын
It's not harder with digital
@AnalogLanguage2 жыл бұрын
Definitely easier with digital but so is re recording a slower/faster version of a track so yeah its not done often for mainly that reason, that it's a lot easier now to re record something slower or faster on digital than tape, regardless brian worked with a whole room a musicans so I feel even if Brian was 24 in the digital age re recording would still be tough ;)

This seems to be closer to the original speed, but seems just slightly to0 slow- for my ears, anyway. However, being closer to the natural speed makes this version even sadder. For years, I never noticed that no one sings on this recording but Brian, which is natural since it was released as a solo single.

So NEVER MIND what I wrote here: "The PET SOUNDS I had in the late 70s admitted (in fine print on the back cover) that it contained fewer tracks than the original. I figured Capitol was doing a version of what they did with Beatles albums in the Sixties..."
