Agree. It's masculine, soulful, and with a real musical sensitivity to it. I almost prefer him singing this song to John Lennon, and I'm a massive Beatles fan.

I met Dennis way back when he was out promoting his POB album. It was at a Peaches record store in Dearborn Michigan. Real decent and approachable guy. We shook hands and he stood by patiently while my friend snapped a photo of us which I still have.

I saw Dennis Wilson sing this at the Boston Garden on Friday, November 26, 1965. It's the only song I remember as the crowd seemed to quiet down a bit when Dennis stepped to the front of the stage to sing it. There was so much screaming the rest of the night you couldn't tell one song from the next.

One of them for sure. The problem is it has been written off by people and even Lennon himself as an attempt at Dylan and people may tend to focus more on this than the quality of the song.

In the 80’s saw The Beach Boys at the Nassau Coliseum, good show but Dennis took the solo on only 1 song and it was You Are So Beautiful. His solo was so good never understood why he didn’t sing more. RIP Dennis.

Arguably on a serious level in the back of my mind is probably on a very serious level, the best early beach boys song. There’s almost nothing that compares to it out of those albums and then every time he took the reins, he killed it.

The dichotomy of receiving repeated corporal punishment for their childhood, then immediately being showered with fame, money, and the power that comes with it in their teens seems to have affected the members in different ways really negatively. I pray he's in a better place now.

He began writing songs on the Friends album and throughout the 60s and 70s. He's also had a solo album Pacific Ocean Blue and the unreleased Bambu. Fantastic albums once you get accustomed to Dennis' ragged vocals. Definitely check them out!

It’s so true and one of the tragedies of the group. Brian was easily influenced on who he gave the leads to in the early days. Al, Carl, and Dennis were superior choices in every song but a few and Love could never carry a lead for an entire song like Dennis did here.

There's a lot of people that say that the Beach Boys couldn't have pulled off their early hits without Mike Love's leads. I just listened to a show in 1965 with Jan and Dean covering Beach Boys songs. Love was easily replaceable. Unfortunately, he was family, so no matter how much of a you know what he was, or how nasally his leads were, the band suffered on.

That's Mike Love speaking, being the cornball he always is. Can't stand anyone else getting attention. About as "with it" as someone from his parents' generation would be. Always known for being pretty lame, even inappropriate. This song was recorded about a year and a half before Dennis met Manson.
