Well even if it weren't for the drugs, he still struggled with mental illness and other physical health issues. Age is another factor, I'm just happy he was still out there performing and post 2000s he looks happier than ever before. His voice is pretty decent too. Of course we can never go back to the 60s, but that's just life :).@@patmcardle2769

I have so much love and respect for this incredible man! What he's gone through in his life is unimaginable, yet he's made it out strong and still, here in 2005 and in 2021, doing what he loves. The man is absolute pure musical genius, from the studio to songwriting to musical arrangements, experiments, technical advances and more. So many people don't realize just how much Brian solely contributed to what followed. I mean, look at Pet Sounds... That album would be advanced for today, and it's pure Bliss start to finish. Mad respect for Brian! What an amazing dude.

I'm 34 and just got into Brian Wilson's "The Beach Boys" this year because of this performance! I have a CRT TV for old video games and I started watching my old VCR recordings from when I was a teen in the 2000s. I watched Pink Floyd Live 8 and I remembered I had the DVD set of that event as well so I wanted to compare the quality of it vs the VHS. Of course I couldn't find the Pink Floyd disc so I put another disc and skimmed through it and this song came on. I knew the "good, good, good, good vibrations" part of the song (probably from a commercial or movie) but I don't think I ever heard the more complex parts. I even thought "oh they are just spicing up the song for the live performance". So I listened to the studio version and it blow my mind at 1:45 exci---tations. One of the most amazing things I ever heard. Been a Brian Wilson addict ever since.

They were in good voice that night, but geeze....every time I see The Beach Boy's even though this is billed as a Brian Wilson Show, I can't keep up with who's in the band anymore. Great band and memories growin up in the 60's, me being from the East Coast NJ/NYC we were into Frankie Valli & The Seasons, it was like us against the west coast surfer sound. Then when you get older and that crap wears off, and you sit back and REALLY listen to Pet Sounds.....then...fa get abboud it. I guess... but it's kind of different here, one could argue... since Brian Wilson's strength was always composing, rather than performing, we don't see a deterioration here. Also there are no major vocal challenges in his songs. Now I do love the fact that he theorizes his family connection led to better harmonies, but tbh the cool thing about Beach Boys songs is, they are like Mozart... anyone can play 'em, and anyone can sing 'em, and if they respect the original material, they can sound really good. So the cool thing about this is, you don't see the original band struggling to hit high notes or whatever because that was never really their bag. In that sense, it might EVEN be more timeless than the Beatles, because it is (in my opinion) not as linked to their personalities. I am happy hearing lots of people play Brian Wilson's music because he was never really a performer to begin with and he gave his music away (essentially.) But the Beatles, for some reason, if anyone else plays their music, it just kinda screams 'cover band.' I dunno... Now if you'll excuse me, my microwave jonny cakes are ready.

Everyone here has their blinkers on. Firstly, kudos to Brian for writing one of the all-time great songs. However this performance is by a top band with a shadow in the front playing the role of Brian Wilson. He can't remember his words, looks confused much of the time, luckily the main vocals are taken expertly by Jeff Foskett - this is his show and his genius holding everything together. I've listened to the alternate versions more than the original. It's even more worthy of the name mini opera. It's just great, those chants right before the end. Hauntingly beautiful. This is wonderful!
@MichaelAnthonyPresents4 жыл бұрын
I can't see why people find the original to be the better version, maybe if it was mixed better it could've been better, but Brian's falsetto, while beautiful, overpowered the mix and I could barely hear the harmonies. The lead vocals were also scratch vocals that were never redubbed, and again, as much of an amazing singer Brian is, I find Carl's lead to be essential and it's Brain handling the lead in the alt. version. Finally I hate the fuzz guitar part and they made the right call to replace that part with the church organ section.
@Nerkin6103 жыл бұрын
I like Mike’s lyrics better, but they definitely should have kept the “and I’m picking up”/“I hope it’s...” that leads into the chorus. It pumps you up effectively.
