Florence is one our favorite places. Spent 6 nights there last year. We like to travel off season and Italy in October to early December a great time to visit. Agree the Oltrano (other side of the river) is the place to stay. So many little shops with inexpensive wine, backed goods, all kinds of amazing food. Our Airbnb was $85/night all included. The best part about offseason Italy is that the crowds are mostly gone. In some cases no lines at all to enter museum or other sites except for Acadamia to see David. But a fraction of the crowd and no rushing. If you love art and history along with food and wine Florence is the best.

It sounds like we stayed in the same neighborhood! We had a great time in Florence and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, we were there at the height of the tourist season. We are trying to be home from mid-July to September 1st to avoid it as much as possible, but we started in early July last year!! 😬

Again great video guys, tks so much! 1. The church you were referring to near la piazza Michel Angelo is called « San Miniato al Monte » it is beautiful and each day at 18:30 you can hear the monastic community celebrate Gregorian chant. 2. Also on the ponte Vecchio before 1593 it used to be butchers ans since the « Medici » family could not stand the bad odors, it then became all jewelers. 3. If you have a chance dont’t miss these 2 museums: l’Accademia & l’Uffizi. Ciao!

It was wonderful to see Florence through someone else's lens. We stayed in the old part of town and did the museum's and got around town on busses. We had read about the August vacations, so we went in September-October. We did hit small grocery stores and got foccia bread and cheese and meat and had a picnic by the river. You are right that eating on a budget is easy. We prepared our own meals, but ate fabulous food.

Great video guys. Florence is definitely a bucket list destination. I was told about beibg aware of the days that the Duomo is closed and not available for visitors. That would be disappointing if there for only a limited time. I laughed out loud on Brian's "average" comment. Funny too when he just makes stuff up, like Michealangelo. This is informative for someone thinking about visiting. I would like to be there in a shoulder season (may or september). I like that it is very walkable, and the prices for food that you showed were not ridiculous. Cheers to both!

I always make sure I’m not eating or drinking anything when I watch because I know at some point, sometimes more than one point, you’re going to say something that will crack me up. 😂🤣 I’m so glad to know that there are places in Italy that can be done on a budget! I’m really looking forward to getting to Europe, even though it’s still a few years away for us. We had some excitement here here Puerto Escondido last night. There was a 5.9 earthquake! 😮. The epicenter was about 200 miles from us but it shook our bed for a couple of minutes. That was pretty scary as it was the first time I had ever experienced that before. Great video you guys! Does Florence and Italy have craft beer? You showed us some of the wine places, but what about your favorite beers? You didn't get thirsty so the weather must be cooler. It looks like a great trip! Are you seeing inflation with your Airbnb's or high cleaning fees? I am noticing that Airbnb prices are going up by a third or more due to inflation. I hope they come down so we can travel on a budget! Cheers and enjoy those Tucan hill towns!

We enjoyed the wine much more while in Italy as it was so good and very affordable. We didn't see much of a craft beer scene, and even when we did the prices were quite high. I’d say travelling on a budget these days means: 1. Travel off peak-season 2. Travel in tier 2 cities. 3. Slow travel Instead of Paris in July, go to Lyon in September. Instead of Florence in August, go to Bologna in October… Etc. Big and/or popular cities are too crowded these days although revenge travel is slowing down. Travelling in Europe in July/August had never been a good idea to start with, and October is definitely a budget winner. Slow travels also help… hopefully its not your last holiday abroad, so pace yourself. European countries are not big, but there are many cities worth visiting. If you want to see more than 3 in 2 weeks, you wont make savings on rent and prepare to overspend on train and/or buses… (and the more cities you see, the less you really are seeing them actually…).
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your insight, very valid points. We do travel full time, which means we do have to be somewhere during those key tourist months, just part of the full time travel life. I think it was in this video that you mentioned that it wasn't worth buying a $1000 phone just to be able to use an esim; though perhaps your experience without a signal changed your mind. I just bought a 3 year old refurbished (like new) Samsung phone for $300, and used an Europe esim in it, in Florence and Italy, for a cost of $18. So it's much better economically than you might have imagined... Thanks for the good videos...

Average . . . wait, what? 😀😀😀 It's surprising that things shut down some in August. Seems like Italy would be one of those places all of France goes to in August. I took an art history class one summer in college and developed a strong desire to see Florence, along with some other places in Italy. Looking forward to more!
@AddieSth Жыл бұрын
Italy traditionally shuts down its workplaces for 4 weeks in August, Italians go on their annual holidays, either to the beach or to the mountains. They definitely don't stay in the cities when it's 90 degreesF! You'll also find that places like banks will have 'summer work hours' as I discovered trying to get into a bank in the afternoon, it was only open in the morning to lunchtime. Italians also joke that in August you won't hear a word of Italian spoken in Florence or Rome as the only people in those cities in August are tourists! (Not Italian ones, they're all at the beach!)
@BrianandCarrie Жыл бұрын
Haha...Brian!! It was surprising to us as well, as we typically expect areas to want to take advantage of the big crowds. But then after thinking about it, can't blame them at all, with the crowds, extremely high temps it's a great time to leave 😊😊. Cheers!!

Hi! We would consider it lean 😊. We knew when making the choice to do what we are doing we would need to really watch spending. But, decided that it was totally worth it to explore the world. There are SO many places around the world you can travel and have it cost very little. We travel to many of those areas half the year so we can then travel to the more costly areas. We have also now begun making enough on KZbin to help subsidize our costs which is great. Cheers!!
