A fantastic car and I hope that the few people who buy one will get them on a track. Like with so many high-powered cars you get bragging rights on the street but at some point it is just overkill unless you live near the Autobahn. A regular base C7 is already pretty amazing, and the ZR1 is the ultimate version. To put things in perspective, the C6 ZR1 sold 4,684 copies in five years. so you probably won't be seeing a whole lot of these either. But credit to Chevrolet for building a 755 hp car that you can use for normal driving with no issues--and which, adjusted for inflation, is actually cheaper than the 2009-13 ZR1 although it has 117 hp more, a better interior, and you can take the top off.

Long live the Manual
@BrianMakse6 жыл бұрын
That’s right.
@helmuthmeier96356 жыл бұрын
@ T U: You write: "Long live the Manual". I ask you: "Why"? The automatic in the ZR1 needs 2,9 secs from 0-60, the manual 3,2 sec. ... Furthermore, all racing cars are equipped with paddle shifters and two pedals since many years. In Formula 1 the last car with a manual started in 1994 (!). Imagine Louis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel in a F1-car with a manual ... just ridicolous. McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari and even Porsche do not build any more sportscars with manuals. So, except the so called "fun" to drive a manual and to travail with three pedals but only two feet and the chance to chose by mistake the wrong gear in a street racing fight, tell me please, what is so exciting about manuals?

@ Brian Makse: I want to change gears manually by myself too, but only with paddle shifters. It's much quicker than a puristic manual stick and three pedals. All modern cars in IMSA, Formula 1 and even rallye cars have only two pedals. If puristic manuals were better, so why do professionals don't use them any more in their respective racing series?

I dont like these cars with stupid looking huge info screens..most cars are adding silly things now..the switches and buttons are dissapearing inplace of touch screen everything...keep switches and buttons in the cockpit.

just found your channel, good review. you seem to know what you're talking about. coming from porsche gt3 which is too expensive for me to track, thinking of dipping a toe into corvette world looking at used z06 vs zr1.. trying to understand if there is a valuable difference to consider. is it one of those cars which is too fast to enjoy driving at road speeds? is it too fast for most tracks? i'm close to laguna seca and sonoma. thanks

Quite sincerely, the Grand Sport is my favourite of the bunch of C7s. At Sonoma, you'd eat everyone's lunch in a ZR1, but that's not the point, is it? The GS is a perfectly balanced package IMO. There's enough power to enjoy, but there's enough left to challenge your abilities. The ZR1 is a perfect buttercup on the road, assuming you're prudent with the throttle.

Good morning Brian - I just purchased a non-ZTK car (low wing), you mentioned you would talk about it in the video, but I may have missed it? Absolutely love the video, great work! If you have any thoughts between the packages, I would love to hear them! Merry Christmas to you and yours! (sorry I'm two years late to the party!)....Kevin
@BrianMakse3 жыл бұрын
Congrats, Kevin! IIRC I think ZTK is relevant if you track your car, if not, enjoy it as it is. Even if you do track it, you have to possess and incredibly high skill set to take advantage of it. Wonderful car. Congrats again and Merry Christmas to you!

@@BrianMakse again, Merry Christmas to you and yours too! Subscribed, liked....and greatly appreciated! I will probably never track it, but it will see some "spirited driving" for sure. I had a Katech C6 Z06 manual that I could never keep up with (although I am a manual purist), so the ZR1 is the automatic. Would really love to hear your opinion on that subject too. Thanks again for the exceptional unbiased video - I will certainly look for more!

@@kevsls7 thanks for dropping in on this, Kevin. It's been great to revisit this video. I had way too much fun with this car. 1,100 miles IIRC. Based on what you're saying, you'll enjoy with spec and you won't miss anything. Check to see if Matt Farah said anything about the ZR1 auto, I didn't get to drive it. I'm guessing GM doesn't appreciate my unbiased reviews because I still haven't driven the C8, but we've just finished shooting a bunch of great content on those same roads you see in this episode.

A C7 is a Corvette, not the C8. And that's why the new C8 should have a new name but not butcher the Corvette name by calling the C8 a Corvette as it's a midengine and not a front-mid engine. The current C7 has practical storage for trips to Costco and can hold many bags for long trips, unlike most midengine cars.
@arivette20106 жыл бұрын
You should know as a Corvette fan, they've been trying to make a mid engine Corvette for decades now. So yes, the C8 will still be a Corvette.
@mrpmj006 жыл бұрын
@Ariel: Yes, GM's been making concepts of Corvette as a midengine but I don't feel that it's the same lineage, so the C8 is NOT a Corvette. See this video by dudeinblue and he can explain it better than me that THE NAME is the problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX_Yhq2LpMqBm8U Porsche understands lineage: the 911 rearengine came out first, then the midengine came out BUT Porsche did not call the newer midengine a 911 but instead gave it a new name: Cayman. Had Porsche called its new midengine 911, is it a 911?
@John-hw3ds6 жыл бұрын
You always hear this when there are model changes and it NEVER holds true. Most will jump on board and embrace the new models once the media starts gushing over it. But I hear you, the C7 is a sweet machine, and I hope to have one in a few years. The ZR1's are already starting to take a huge hit in price and I think it will get worse, but I have a feeling that the ZR1 price will rebound and be a favorite among collectors in the future.
