Brian I used a pvc cutter that can easily cut up to 2 inch diameter pvc pipe. It is ratcheted to make it easy to use as it cuts. Big benefits include no pvc crumbs and associated mess; less waste; less noise; costs way less ($12) than a chop saw; and takes less total time since you don’t have as much cleanup. Congrats on getting your hangar organized and making it easier to store your airplanes. Great job on demonstrating how to build pvc stands. I built pvc racks to mount on the garage walls since I don’t have the floor space in the garage. Thanks for making your videos. Always informative and entertaining!

You do have a challenge for sure. I found by removing the wings, I can better manage my available space. Racks on the wall for fuselage, and I built a rack with pegs on a section of the wall, BUT, on hinges so I can stack winge (20) and lift the rack to the ceiling, out of the way and lots of head clearance. Works GREAT. For the aircrafts where you can't or won't remove wings, that is another challenge. (rafters)

I'm a Patreon. Brian, I made these PVC stands a couple of years ago but out of bigger diameter pvc. And I put wheels on them to move them around easier. Huge advice! Run wooden dowels down through the inside of the pvc. Locks everything all together, makes them 10 times stronger. If you don't then the stands will slowly lean over and then fall with everything on them. Unless you run fishing line from the ceiling or similar to hold them upright. The dowels make them more mobile. And cut pieces with a pipe cutter and you won't have any mess.

I have a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter that takes 3-4 seconds to go through 3/4" Schedule 40 and you don't have any waste, no mess to clean up, no chance of breathing in PVC dust, and there are no burrs caused by a sawing method. A little sanding on all ends to round them a little is going help make the assembly and break-down easier. A light coating of soap, baby oil, veg oil, or whatever you have on hand, will help the pieces slide together with less force. Thanks for the great videos! I'm new to your channel and RCing and I'm looking at the AeroScout 1.1, as my first plane.

@@BrianPhillipsRC I went with the AeroScout S 2 1.1m that comes with Smart 2200mAh 3S 11.1V 30C LiPo battery, and since I have ADD (lol) and can't wait for two hours for that little battery to recharge so I also bought a 100C battery to get me back in the air and fly longer. On the third hand launch over grass, a sudden cross wind pitched it over and it crashed on the pavement I was near and crunched the front landing gear. Doh! I was convinced by the sales person to buy a $15 bottle of EPO Foam glue, which I think I left on the back of my motorcycle, that I rode 45 minutes from my home. As it turns out, Super Glue works pretty well for minor repairs. Are there any other EPO Foam friendly glues that you could recommend?

Totally! We made one HUGE mistake when we built our house in the country. We put in a large 3 Car garage, and we should have made it a 4-5 car with 2-3 of the stalls tandem parking. We needed room immediately, and as time passes, and we collect machinery, it has been a battle keeping up with storage. In fact, it's ironic, we JUST finally hung up our pictures from moving 3 years ago...and this video was filmed the same time frame... Moving sucks, especially after 12+ years in a house. When we move from here, in like 100 years, it's gonna be terrible!

Nice collection Brian! Hey just a tip. To make a stand that’s a little more sturdy use something 1/2” thicker for the base and sides. Buy Tees that are reduced on one hole. For example a 1” x 3/4” x 1” tee. I made mine that way and it’s way more sturdy and I could stuff use the smaller pvc to hang each plane on. The Tees cost a little more but not bad at all. Also use a ratcheting cutter if you’re wanting to avoid the mess

A PVC cutting hand tool is no dust and no material wasted and nearly as fast as the chop saw. Lightly chamfer the outer edges with a utility knife or sandpaper. If there is no intention to use adhesive then a light coating of grease of some sort would allow rapid disassembly. I would go a step further and glue the horizontal supports to the tees. Makes it easier to twist that section off the vertical supports. Could even heat the horizontal leg a little after assembly and bend it slightly upwards to provide a little security from bumps and wind or whatever.

Like this - www.archbuildings.com/blog/product/20x58-steel-arch-farming-storage-building/ That would be cool, but we want to get a real plane inside...I don't know how we would do a door broadside on that type of building? Also, I want it to be 20ft sidewalls, or possible 16 foot, with the door on the wide side, which would be unusual, and probably requiring a steel span AKA way more money. We haven't even 100% settled on our building side, but we DO now have two 40' HQ (9.5' Tall) containers with doors on both ends. They have been instrumental in helping us clear out some space in our basement for the installation of our backup batteries, which will be happening not next week, but the following week, if all goes to plan. Once this is done, we have plans to finish the living quarters side of the basement, then get the shop setup in a more permanent fashion. Once this is done, we should be working out the "bugs" on where exactly the "dam gift shop" will sit...since we'll need to build that pad too. It's been a lot of work, and we're really only just starting, so can't wait to get this all behind us, so we can be using it all! It's gonna be an epic journey, and hope you'll be following along ;)

Hi Brian, I have a storage question. You've stored some of the planes for a long time. Have you noticed any bending in the wing (maybe at the wing root, or anything) due to the weight of the fuselage? I realize the planes are pretty light, but some wings are not very thick. I have about 25 planes still in boxes, but your stand makes me want to assemble everything I have. Nice room. Good video. Thanks.

I haven't. I thought they would get more hangar rash, but really, this seems to be an issue only when I knock one off working on the water heater (just happened to my AT6 - broke the rudder - I was pretty pissed, but LOL anyway!!!)

I was using 1/2" Schedule 40, but we did have to reinforce the verticals on the BIGGER ones... Some have suggested using 3/4 or 1 and then using a step down INSIDE for more rigidity.

I used PVC to make a carrier like yours to move planes to the RC Field when we had the family van. Once we moved to a house with a park in front yard and water feature in back, it hangs in garage as a four plane carrier (I only do park flyers or water planes now to keep it simple).

Two ideas, one get a PVC cutter! You will thank me later LOL cut up the 2 inch PVC pipe zero mess clean cut every time! Two, get some pool noodles to cover the PVC extensions out that the planes rest on. It will stop any damage done to the foam.

@BrianPhillipsRC 2 жыл бұрын
WHAT?! You can cut 2" PVC with those things?!?!? I already have one, I think....but I use it to cut pex. Also, no loss of length if you cut it that way, right?

@@BrianPhillipsRC yes sir! Up to 2 inch PVC! It’s the ratcheting kind, no loss in length, you will get a clean perfect cut every time unless it’s a really short piece under an inch and sometimes it goes sideways a little bit. It is the only way I cut PVC anymore LOL tired of those little shavings everywhere!

hello, very good video.... I learned a lot of things, especially since I too am trying to find a solution for storing my planes. and your solution is brilliant! just a small question, for some planes (focke wulf 190, viper 90) why leave the landing gear out? will you save space if the gears are retract into the wings of the plane?

Instead of using a power saw to cut PVC, there’s a specialized hand tool for that purpose. It looks like a large pair of curved scissors with a ratcheting action that make it fast and easy to penetrate PVC. Does not produce dust like a saw does. Find it in the plumbing section.
