You're certainly right about organization. The only difference between junk and spare parts is being able to find something when you need it. Great video, Brian! I was kinda looking forward to one of your famous blackboard talks, but your message was clear without going there.

BTW, the same hose going to the Schrader valve apparently was the culprit.

Let me just say that I have watched a lot of videos on troubleshooting evap systems because they are complicated and the couple of videos you have made on the subject showed me more valuable information than the rest on you tube...thanks to you I figured out that my purge solenoid was good but the vacuum lines were backwards. Fixed the problem.. thanks so much.
@DENicholsAutoBravado10 жыл бұрын
I can't aid afford a smoke machine. Seeing you use a a tool I already have so encouraged me on how to find that leak! Just pump some vacuum and see if it leaks. I've watched tons of EVAP videos and I've learned something from everyone, but that was two of the final clues. The second being, put vacuum on the vent and see it drop the vacuum when activated. So simple! I usually avoid !!, but I got excited. :)
@silkytp7899 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, for this video. The technique you used to isolate the leak front versus rear is exactly how I solved my problem. I had never traced those vac lines before, and when I was able to determine that the leak was coming from the rear end, I could concentrate my efforts there. I know it's simple, but it was HUGE for me. The only thing I did different was rather than use plugs and bolts to plug the lines for testing, I crimped them with needle nose vice grips that had fuel line on the tips, then used my hand vac pump. But dude, this video helped me isolate my problem and the CEL that's been on for two years on my '02 Jeep WJ, is now OFF! (bows) Thanks again man.

Thanks Brian, so many places for these components to leak or malfunction ... yet we're stuck with these systems and the "Money Light" as many mechanics call them ... your Videos help break the diagnosis down to understandable steps ... I've also learned to really check connections closely when ever there are electrical related codes ... I've seen connector that were not locked yet performed for 10 years only to get bumped and cause a bad connection ... while working on something else under the hood ..

Brian- On my 03 Ram, my evap problem was that I was filling my gas tank too full. It would overflow into the charcoal canisters (2 canister setup) and solidify the charcoal. I red-necked a bladed screwdriver end on my electric drill to loosen up the solid charcoal. That fixed it forever.
@johnchristopherson271810 жыл бұрын
Good job of diagnosing an EVAP system liked the way you explained doing the tests on one hose or component at a time to help us understand it is important to narrow down the search to pinpoint the problem, also liked your advice on cleaning and lubing the gas cap.

Learned new simple stuff as usual from watching your videos. thanks for the upload ! I would have put an O ring just to be safe on that hose. I noticed that the vacuum hoses expand from the heat or oil with the time and become loose... the other thing is I can't count how many times where that mityvac pump saved my life...I use it in everything , especially to bleed the brakes!

Helpful video. I'm dealing with an evap leak on my cousin's car now and I just can't find it and I don't have a smoke machine. The only thing I've found is that purge valve you tested. On the Corolla I'm working on it doesn't hold vacuum but it opens and closes when I test it. But it's not a cheap part and I'm not 100% sure that's the problem. The codes are p0441 and p0455. I hate dealing with evap systems, so much testing involved and you're never sure if you've fixed it right away if there isn't direct evidence.

Brian, I have an Accord Honda from 1996, today both ligths, SRS and ABS turn on on the dash. The car havent been use for several months, just crank it every 10 days and let engine run several minutes to keep battery charged. Cant stand why get two ligths from two different systems at the very same time. As a matter of fact, horn doesnt work from long time ago, asked about that, and I have been told that some sort of wiring in the steering wheel worn out or damaged. Just wondering if this could be now an issue for drivers airbag also causing SRS ligt come on. Still dont undertand the ABS light. The light tunerd on steady, not flashing, not beeping. Car still brakes fine. Many thanks in advance.

@geraldmartin36257 жыл бұрын
Mark Boza was the car rear ended? I had a Volvo that was hit on the gas filler sideand "repaired" before I bought it. Turns out the filler neck was replaced and the flex hose to the tank wasnt and the flex tube would allow gas to overflow out the top of the tank. Your problem might be similar or it may be the tank pressure valve isnt releasing air pressure in the tank to the charcoal canister while you fill up.
@markboza62157 жыл бұрын
no the car was never in a accident, I don't know why but when I put fuel in and it gets to full it over flows out the top of the tank, I believe it is the sending unit inside the tank ,my gas gauge don't work either so I do my best to do the mileage thing but sometimes I lose track when I ffuel up and it overflows, I'm not replacing the fuel pump until it needs iit, it can leak till the cows come home.

Sometimes a cable tie or a small hose clamp is all what you need... just to make those rubber hose connections more "snag"... If everytime this happens you cut a little piece of rubber hose... you will eventually not have a hose anymore...
