I know this video is 6 years old and you'll probably never see this, but I needed to take a second and say THANK YOU. Was quoted an ungodly price for a replacement and didnt feel like buying some off brand hunk of junk for my Ram. Took it apart, cleaned the gunk off the motherboard, put the pads centered back on the buttons and it works good as new. Wholeheartedly thank you sir!

You are the MASTER !!!!!!! I did exactly what you said in the video, and my key fob now works! Before I did what you said in the video, my key fob would not unlock my car doors. So I took it apart and cleaned it and put the little pads back in place, put the key fob back together, and it freaking works!!! I am so freaking happy right now thank you so so so very much! You just save me about $300. Seriously the places I was calling were telling me $180 for the key fob, $50 if I wanted the hidden key that comes inside, and another 75 to program it! What a crock of shit lol. I am so grateful you did this video! Thank you again!

This tutorial was so helpful to me! Both of my dogs were malfunctioning. One was because one of the circles had moved and when I would just grab my keys, it would open up my door. The other fob wouldn't work when I would press the button. Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to figure out the problem, clean up the circuit board, glue down the circle, put it back together and get it back to working again. Now that I repaired both fobs, it has been over a week, and they both work great without any trouble. Thanks so much once again! Great tutorial!

Very straight forward video that resolves issue. I have a 2015 dodge dart. When you remove the key there isn't a screw like in the video. You just have to pull it apart in this case and the rest of the steps are the same.

Mine has a black tiny button were the screw is on his. I saw on another video he made about how to change the battery on a dodge Caravan video how he used the ed of the key he took out to expose that area to push into that spot then Jimmy the back open by wiggling the key once he's pushed it in as far as he can. Should be able to easily search for the how to change the battery on the dodge Caravan video to see foryourself.

Man, I’m so glad I found this video. My truck would lock when my fob was in my pocket and my truck would beep 5 times in a row. I also have remote start and sometimes my truck would be running and I didn’t even know it. This did the trick and I cleaned both fobs today. Thank you so much!!

OMG,.. OMG,.. OMG… thank you so much!!!!! I can’t believe this was the solution to my problem. I have been dealing with this for a couple of years and just gave up. I thought I’d have to eventually go to the dealership. I followed your simple instructions, cleaned the contacts and readjusted the tiny metal contact points and went out and tested it & on the first try I heard my horn beep upon locking the doors!!!! Thanks for the video. My jeep kept unlocking. Soon as i opened up the rubber two of the little plates we overlapping causing it to unlock every time i locked it. Saved me a trip to the auto electrician. Awesome work

I've done this a few times but the pencil eraser is the step I was missing. Great video, straight to the point with no BS,,, Thanks!!!!! Since I had a spare, after the eraser I wiped it with a microfiber to see how delicate the circuitry was and had no problems. The only thing I would add is don't force the two sections together, be patient and wiggle them till the rubber gasket falls in place.

I don't even know how I managed to find this video, but thank you! I just changed the battery in my 2013 ram fob thinking that was the reason behind it locking/remote starting without me actually pressing the button, but it wasn't. It was at the point where I couldn't even keep my keys in my pocket because it would constantly lock my truck or remote start for no reason. This worked perfectly and I don't have that issue anymore.

Thank you!!!! I just bought a 2013 Dodge Dart and after just a couple weeks the unlock and trunk buttons weren’t working. I thought I’d have to get another fob. I opened it and the contacts were spread all over the inside. I used silicone glue to glue them back in place and the circuit board was sticky and gross. I used a dry microfiber cloth to clean it up. The circuit board/eraser trick is a great new idea for me! I like just soap and water on the plastic & rubber stuff ( yes I use a drain screen in the sink incase those discs were to fall off). The adhesive recommendation is also very helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience!!!

Hey Brian use a Magic Eraser, the melamine abrasive is gentle but tough enough to clean it. At the tech department at my school where I work we use it to clean the keyboards. It really works! (By the end of the year the white pristine Apple keyboards look really yellow, the eraser makes me look brand new!)

Thanks, man! This was a life saver for me! My key fob had stopped working properly. I would have to push a button repetitively to finally get it to work. I had just changed the battery a couple of months prior and thought it might of been a weak replacement battery, so I changed it again to find the problem remained the same. I then tonight looked up this issue and came across your video. It took me a couple of minutes to clean the inside of my fob to make it work like new again!

I never knew about using a soft eraser to clean the contacts. I always used rubbing alcohol or window cleaner when no alcohol could be found. Great tips Bri! Thanks!

Yesss! Thank you! I fixed my son's key fob. The metal contacts were way off and the entire thing was filthy! I used alcohol prep pads. Now it works perfectly!

Those little polka dot contact point being loose or moved off their position is exactly why these fobs go off on their own or if you simply have it brushing back and forth in your pocket. Mine was doing the same thing. I fixed it in 5 minutes with some CA glue and it now works fine. Good video.

Thanks for the video! My truck kept locking randomly and I was wondering why it started doing that. Narrowed the problem down to my key fob as it quit when I took the battery out. I noticed the gold contacts were filthy but the metal buttons were perfectly glued and centered. Cleaned the contacts using the eraser trick and now my truck seems to be fine.

I just had to perform surgery on both my Subaru keyfobs yesterday. On both the switch for the lock button came loose from the pc board. Had to solder those tiny suckers back on! works again now.

My key fobs both would not lock the doors but would unlock been that way for a while. Watched your video and pulled the fob apart well the little round contacts had come unglued --used super glue fobs are working great.

Thanks for that. I experienced the key fob malfunction earlier this year. I always assumed that gunk was supposed to be there, like a glue or something. Anyways, just cleaned it and it works much better.

I put a new battery in mine and none of the buttons work. 09 charger 3.5 V6. All fuses and relays are good and, no electrical shorts. Could I just use rubbing alcohol instead? Awesome video. Thanks so much.

Hey, Armando. What he shows in the video is the answer. I was going to use rubbing alcohol but, I didn't want to damage the contacts. Using a rubber eraser solved my problem. Just don't rub to hard.

One of 2 key FOB I have has the lock button being way so touchy, a light breeze would set it of. I thought it was defective,so I purchased an OEM FOB. I wish I saw this video first. The defect button would NOT click when pushed down. Somehow when I opened the case, I lost some of the metal coin disk(shaped like a shield). When can I find these contact buttons? Any hints would be helpful!

I have the exact problem, fixed it exactly the same way. My problem now is one fob just won't function, even if I leave the cover off and use a wire to complete the circuit. It does still start the car so it is not a battery issue. All traces look good, could be a fried chip. I have to be careful not lock with the door lock without the good fob in my pocket....otherwise locked out, as the door lock is buggered after someone tried getting in so key doesn't work. On the older caravans you had both front doors and the hatch with key entry. The newer ones the saved themselves a few bucks to eliminate 2 of the 3 locks. No chance I buying anew one, way way too much $$$$. - Cheers

I had a similar problem. My unlock button didn't work. I watch your vid and opened the fob. I noticed that the unlock button was missing. I am going to try to remove the panic button (I never used that button, dont even know when I would have to use it.) and glue it in the unlock position. hopefully that'll work. Thanks. I could not figure out why my car would not unlock and lock, so I changed the battery. When i changed the battery, my car would unlock and my truck would open but that was it. This past year, I had noticed my car was super sensitive to random locking, but just figured my battery was dying. When i opened it up further, i noticed my lock circle was missing, and my unlock was doubled up. though i didnt use anything to seal it in place, what exactly are you using to seal it down and how long does it take to cure?

Brian to clean any plastic quickly and easily is to use D L hand cleaner blue can it will clean plastic,like magic removing all hand grease I would make old timinglights look like new. Use a foam rubber sponge when applying.

Big thanks, found those little discs floating around. Used shoe glue, its what i had on hand, stays pliable. All good! Note i have 2012 RAM, no screw holding it shut, just pry it open.

THANKS..... my unlock button stop working. I was using the key to unlock my door but it set the alarm off every time. 😒 until I started the car. I open the fob and found the contact laying on top of another one. Wipe it off and place it back and now it's back working fine.

If you need to find these 'buttons' because you lost them they are called 'dome switches' and/or 'PCB Surface Mount Tactile Membrane Switches'.

I don't know if it'll work on this particular application. But the 8-bit guy has a tutorial on how to return brominated (yellowed) plastic back to it's normal white color. If that's what happened to your key fob to turn the buttons yellow, you could give it a shot.

Hey Brian, great video. But here's my problem: when my Chrysler T&C van fob needed a new battery, I changed it. Only then did it become super sensitive like yours. But here's the twist: the front windows started opening themselves! It has happened 3 times, #1 was fully opened, 2nd & 3rd time they were down about 4". I never witnessed it happening and I have no idea what's causing it. I didn't think the fob could even do that! Per your vid, I took it apart (fob slightly different, no screw to undo), cleaned it up and put it back together. We'll see if it happens again. Any ideas?
