Want a jack like the one used here, but 7 years newer? Here's a convenient link to one on Amazon → www.amazon.com/...
These bark and squeak when new, but they last FOREVER. They're pretty good. I've liked mine. Plus they're great for low vehicles like Corvette's, BMW's, and the like.

Try a little roll of flux core mig wire for outdoor welding. It's not as pretty as gas but it works in the wind.

+carabela125 E71T-11 electrode wire is what I would use. I personally prefer using SMAW (aka stick) welding for remote welding locations outside.

+ykmalachi In B.U.D.S. training to become a Navy Seal, the most common PT issue is the glut medius is too weak to run in the sand without getting runners knee. Men just don't do the leg lifts to handle running in sand all the time with a load. Quads, gluts, hamstring muscles? Yeah, they got'em. Like you say though, you might get mocked, but those muscle groups are important for those less than everyday tasks. Check out more here → kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3_KpYl3fsl8fpo The guy's doing what looks like women's aerobics at 8:40 in the aforementioned link, but to save his life he can't get 5/5 on hip strength because he hasn't trained that group- likely because it looks "sissy," but if Basic Underwater Demolition / Seals need it, it's not sissy anymore is it? Those guys are the epitome of manliness.

I wish you lived close. I would come over and pester you for work. Not payed work, you just get to do a lot of interesting stuff. I'd do it for free just to get to tinker. I ran out of stuff to do around the house. Just rebuilt an old 032 Stihl that was siezed and abandoned in my friends shed for the last 10 years. (My father in law ran off with it to put it to work tomorrow.) Great channel. All kinds of cool stuff to learn.

Well driving around with a tank full of water probably not a good idea. Why not just by two of the same pieces of steel and turn them on end. Is there room

Common Problem, My $70K Keystone 5th wheel has the same Backwoods engineering for the water tank. It has a 100 Gallon Fresh Water tank x 8# a gallon. You would think at least one person at Keystone would have some design/engineering skills.

+john smith I quickly realized my practice welds weren't that helpful...you see, all my welding is under a car, lol. NON perfect conditions. The only practical angle to practice? Uncomfortable, but realistic, lol.

Would thick angle iron have been better to re-box the supports?
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 9 жыл бұрын
+shortwave A chain or structure is only as strong as the weakest link. The angle, and frame of the RV is super thin. Thicker angle would only add weight. The material the heavy angle is welded to would fail.

I would have added extra bracing underneath the tank in addition to what you did, though I suppose if one is going to go that far to properly support the tank, they might want to consider fabricating a new tank.
@filpazndude
@filpazndude 9 жыл бұрын
+Truthseeker4449 I was thinking the exact same thing, but instead box up the whole thing to even protect the sides from bulging out or even just support the bottom of water tank with a plate of aluminum or steel liek you said. How ever the owner wanted a quick and cheap fix
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 9 жыл бұрын
+Truthseeker4449 Yeah. That's ideal, but I did 10x more than what I was asked to begin with. Were it mine, I would build a new redesigned setup using slightly thicker wall tube and incorporate something to prevent the slide on the end as it facilitates the sagging bend to occur. Even now I could/should put some screws up through the ends of the three ribs.
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 9 жыл бұрын
+filpazndude That's right.

+briansmobile1 The other issue is weight distribution. You have to maintain 60% of the total wet weight of the trailer in front of the axle even with four wheelers and gear in the back. If you get too much weight rear of the axle you have stability issues with the trailer tracking straight on the highway. The water tank is only over and rear of the back axle on this design as it is, and the GVWR & GAWR is pretty low, meaning the allowable amount of weight you can add is finite. Anything added rear of the axle has to be balanced with 120% of that same weight added to the front of the axle. In this case there was already two tool boxes mounted to the front tongue bracings of the trailer.
@filpazndude
@filpazndude 9 жыл бұрын
+briansmobile1 That is true as well. But also why I said aluminum even though it still has weight to it. I mean theyre alot of factors when taking on re-fabricating things from factory
