I’ve got the Apple TV 4K 2021 that I bought in July 2022. I’m absolutely in love with this product. Best investment I’ve made in terms of my viewing experience. Easy connect to AirPods - handy to use whilst watching a movie/programme late at night. Prevents disturbing other people I live with. Picture quality is fantastic to watch on my 4K sony tv. I’ve watched a few reviews on the 2022 model & I can’t see a big enough difference to warrant an upgrade & paying the asking price. To me there’s barely any difference. I think I’ll leave it for a while to upgrade my Apple tv & + I really haven’t had mine long enough to trade it it in for the newer product not the market.

Can someone explain to me why this black bar thing is occurring when it never used to? Mine not only goes black but skips a good portion of the video after an Ad on yourtube, I then need to rewind after every add. I can stop this by turning match frame rate off but then need to turn it back on when I go to netflix. Would having a new TV fix this? A new Apple TV? If this strictly an Apple TV issue?
@williamshakespeare3427 Жыл бұрын
It’s your tv matching the type of video your watching. Put your resolution to 4K sdr and match frame rate and type.

The black screen will keep happening because it’s switching to a different display. But if you put 4K sdr as your resolution it’ll happen less often
@williamshakespeare3427 Жыл бұрын
It’s not an issue technically because your tv or Apple TV isn’t broken. It’s just switching between different display types( hdr, Dolby vision) both are essentially the same thing. What you get depends on what tv you have. Some TVs are capable of both.

@zahirmulla67152 жыл бұрын
I have the 2021 and see no blank screen when changing frame rate, it’s seamless
@PK-blue2 жыл бұрын
It's a bit more involved than that. No TV supports QMS yet, as it is a HDMI 2.1 feature that not even LG have implemented yet. HDMI 2.1's QMS is a derivate of VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) but not the same. Here is the HDMI organization's description: "Quick Media Switching for movies and video uses the HDMI VRR mechanism to eliminate the blackout period when an HDMI Source device switches its video mode. As long as the resolution remains the same and only the frame rate changes, QMS will instantly switch between frame rates". Paired with the Match Frame Rate function, QMS will allow Apple TV 4K to seamlessly match frame rates for output in 23.976Hz, 24.00Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz etc. without any black screens (so-called HDMI bonk) or picture interruptions on the TV.

Turns out the QMS-VRR setting only stops the black screen switch when it comes to frame rate switching. If you have sdr set all the time but have match dynamic range enabled you’ll still get a black screen briefly (although it’ll likely be quicker at switching due to not having to do the frame rate sorting AS WELL AS dynamic range).

Apple TV has great image and app startup, however the sound sucks. Have to crank at least 10db on my HT and doesn’t sound as good as the XBox or the TV modes. I would be surprised if Apple finally fixed it.

I’m an Apple Arcade user and the added storage is great and I hope it will lead to a killer app on tvOS. That being said I’ll only pick this up after one of my 4K Apple TV’s brick or I get another TV in the house. If I were due for an upgrade I’d pick this up.

Would you recommend those of us who have the gen one atv 4k to upgrade to this new one?

Right now you aren’t going to notice a big difference between the A12 and A15 chips but it’s good future proofing. Might as well buy the 1 year newer model with a 3 year newer processor.

Not everyone can spend the money and just say 'might as well'. That's not the norm when it comes to people buying tech.
@lamakicker692 жыл бұрын
@@briantong when it’s only like an extra $20-30 yes…yes you can. If someone can’t afford that minor bump in price then they aren’t buying an Apple TV in the first place lol There’s no reason to buy the 2021 model, they are just gonna let them slowly dwindle in stock as uninformed buyers don’t realize there’s a difference outside of price.

The “Thread” ability is bigger than people think. As well as the AirPods working seamlessly with it is big for us when I want to stay up watching tv. Worth imo for those.

don't need the box for HDR10+ , it works on the Apple Tv Samsung apps

I’m upgrading from the 2015 version. So it should be a big difference

Thinking of doing the same. I’d love to be able to have the ability to use my HomePods as TV speakers over ARC, definitely can’t do that on my 2015 one

I’m gonna upgrade because I have a big Plex library that I play on the ATV. Plex isn’t the most optimised app and lags scrolling through lots of content on the current ATV 4K so I’m looking forward to see how the new processor improves in that regard.

You might wanna look at your server or your network. I used to run gen 1 4K over WiFi running off rpi with encoding off and nothing changed when moved to the new one.

Try infuse, miles better

@@subbiahpalani server and network are all good, it’s actual hitches when scrolling through Plex in the app. Playback is perfectly fine.

@@josecespedes5323 I have tried infuse and although it runs smoother I hate the UI compared to Plex.

@@MushToast_ This is the reason why want to get an Apple TV in the first place. I want to stream movies from my OneDrive on my TV. Does it make a difference if I buy the 2021 model or 2022 model? Can you help me out here?

If you want to have a fast device and have the freedom to install what you want, then the best option is to buy a Fire TV Stick that is also cheaper.
