So I'm cutting the cord finally and am thinking about trying KZbinTV. Unfortunately I have a 2015 model Samsung TV that doesn't support the KZbinTV app, so I need a streaming device. Since I have many other iOS and MacOS devices, Apple TV seems the logical choice for me. Would I be able to get the KZbin TV app on this? My new Apple TV 4K is arriving today. I wish the manufacturers of devices such as this would provide written guidance or online guidance rather than make their customers figure everything out by trial and error. Specifically, I don’t know what the video format selection on the Apple TV 4K is supposed to accomplish. If I select “4K HDR,” am I telling the device that it’s connected to a 4K TV that handles HDR, or am I telling the device that the incoming signal is 4K HDR? If I’m using the Apple TV 4K to watch videos on Plex, must I change this setting every time I switch from an old TV show to a blu ray movie to a 4K movie? I would hope that the Apple TV 4K is smart enough to know that.

I find that it’s best to have the setting as 4K SDR and have match content set to on for ‘range’. That way you’re not forcing ALL content to show in hdr on the tv whether it was recorded that way or not. It’s still able to have the Apple TV automatically send a hdr signal to the TV when this setting is enabled. Enable ‘match frame rate’ if you want to make sure Dolby Vision (another better version of hdr) is activated when possible. Having it this way will also save electricity costs as sdr is less power hungry for TVs than hdr. Hope that made sense. Any questions just ask. 😊

The picture and tone quality is selected by the Apple TV 4K Box automatically to what the connected TV set is capable of, if set up is correctly chosen. If you select HDR 4K resolution, but you only have an HD TV set, the picture will look terrible. You need to select SDR 1080p and toggle the match picture option on.

Love the apple TV, but setup is annoying when you don't have an iPhone and you cant get rid of the complete setup message. I have to check my iMac to get the code. I prefer my Zfold 4 for my cell and have not found a way around it sending the setup code to my Mac.

On my 2022 Apple TV 4K on tvOS 16.1, Match Dynamic Range switching between Dolby Vision, HDR and SDR is not working. I have to switch manually. This is not an issue on my 2021 unit. Is anyone else having this issue?

I got the apple tv 4k 2021 over a month ago but im always experiencing some issues, disney+ keeps restarting the episodes from the beginning, apple music randomly mute and Netflix often plays video in the lowest resolution even though my internet connection is ultra fast, i updated the software, reset the device and even removed and installed the apps again, any idea why and what to do?

HDMI cables and Apple TV set up. Netflix quality is due to the selected subscription. Use video format as SDR 4K 50Hz (Europe) or 60Hz (US) and toggle on the settings for Match picture rate and format on. And you need a high quality HDMI cable that supports 4K and Dolby Atmos. You can run a test diagnostic on your HDMI cable within the setting of the Apple TV

Actually, it is activated. Just open the remote on your iPhone and tap on Find My! Then your iPhone is guiding you to the location of your remote. Or use your regular TV remote with ARC/eARC. Easy

Apple needs to add support for simultaneous outputs. Currently they support only output via bluetooth or hdmi, not both. I have a use case when grandparents want to watch tv with the family and they need their own headphone and volume control while the rest of the family listens via the home theater system. I do this now with a separate headphone output, but it would be great if added as an option via appletv.

Excellent video! Was very interested to see just how different this is from the last gen TV4K. The price difference, at least to my eyes, literally only reflects the lack of a charging cable for the remote, and the savings on the bill of materials for fan, plastics, packaging. Unless you previously owned a product that charges with USB-C, the $20 cable you’ll likely purchase at time of sale will bring it to $149/$169… no real savings if you don’t own a recent MacBook, iPad or other Type C device 😅

Airplay connect was glitchy on the 2021. Volume controls didn’t port over from the hdmi monitor out to my airplay speakers. With the 2022 4K, there is no such issue

I like using Apple Music with this, it has Dolby Atmos and being able to use my Ps4 controller with games. I had the old Apple TV with the optical port as I had older equipment, however that is not an issue as most TVs have an Optical out so I can use that instead and apps that have Dolby Atmos will have 5.1 with older AV equipment.

I recently read that when streaming apps on a current Apple TV load to the new model the login credentials are not ported over, meaning you have to locate user names and passwords to set them up manually. Is this true? I would have thought if both devices are on iCloud and passwords are saved in the password manger this would be seamless. Is this not the case?

You always have to sign in to the different apps/providers, even when you set up a new iPhone. It is for obvious security reasons. When setting up your new Apple TV, you can use your iPhone and the password manager. You’re prompted on the Apple TV screen to use your iPhone and Face ID

Not that I care about HDR10+…but when tvOS 16 was in Developer betas I could have sworn it was usable in AppleTV 4K 2nd gen. But now Apple is implying it’s an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen only feature? Kind of like they imply that personalized spatial audio is an AirPods Pro 2 feature when it has actually been available to AirPods Pro original and AirPods Max ever since iOS 16 has been in beta in June. Trying to inflate the value of the new Apple TV? Or did they intentionally disable it for all but the newest Apple TV 4K?

2022 4k was much less buggy when using airplays volume controls ported quicker to AirPlay speakers while on my 2021 ATV 4K, it was laggy and still controlled the hdmi volume output even though I disable audio to the tv.
